Critique Board Recording
Question: OK, so we record each week at church so that we can figure out what works and what does not. We record live to CD so there are no overdubs. It seems we did everything a little fast this week. Anyway, I would be interested in your comments on any aspects of these recordings. If you would like to try to guess the gear we are using, that is cool, I will post a list of gear later. Use "cgr" for login and password if prompted. Come Now Is The Time To Worship For The Lord Our God Reigns Glory Hallelujah - If you only grab one, this one is funky cool. You Are So Good To Me Running On Empty - Yeah, we did Jackson Browne for special this week. We are doing a series called Classic Rock that includes U2, Billy Joel and several others. Answer: The link for "You are so good to me" doesn't work...it makes me sad.... Real nice grove on the special, that sounds particularly good. Answer: Electronic drumset? Answer: Here is a pic to help you along. Answer: Sounds great! Love the mix, none of the instruments overpowers the others, very balanced and great playing as well. The only thing I think needs a little work is the lead singers voice; sometimes the notes are a bit flat and it sounds like he's putting on a voice. By that I mean the singing doesn't sound natural, sort of forced and also has that classic "singer's accent." You know, "Now is the time to worship" becomes "Now is the tam to wuh-ship." Otherwise very good stuff. Answer: Originally Posted by bmphan Sounds great! Love the mix, none of the instruments overpowers the others, very balanced and great playing as well. Otherwise very good stuff. Thanks for that. If that is our biggest problem, we are in great shape. The bass player and I were filling in on vocals this week because our normal lead vocalist was drumming. Answer: Good stuff. I'll come back with more comments overall a little later, as I have to listen to it a little more. But here's my guesses on the gear based on the picture. Guitars: Ibanez Artcore series Strat of some sort Pedals: Can't tell, but I think I see a Line 6 DL-4. Bass: Looks like one of those Peavey Grind Basses. Amps: Not a clue. It would be cool. I am getting a Rivera Chubster and when we build out the space we are moving to (likely this fall) I am going to look at a "hush" room for that kind of thing. Right now...no amps at all. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
