interesting thing happened
Question: I'm involved in a monthly worship event here called "Live" (I know original)....and I just found something interesting out about our last "Live" (jan 8th) We were playing a song called "I delight in you". It was written by one of the members of the group. The lyrics are (all I can remember) You're the apple of my eye And it's you that I desire You're the apple of my eye And it's you that I desire I delight in you You Delight in Me I delight in you You Delight in Me anyways....the band got into a really intense time of worship....and amazing things were happening...I was doing things on the drums I've never been able to do before (people said it looked and sounded like I had about 4 hands)....one of the singers was collapsed on the stage(bowing down basicly) another one was dancing like a mad man....and another was just screaming at the top of her lounges...it was simply amazing...there was even a light mist in the venue...which I believe was the spirit....cuz the fog machine wasn't running...anyways...today at lunch I found out...when this happened...about 20-30 people walked out of the service...and were freaking out...because they didn't know what was going on...and we had volunteers running after them trying to explain...etc It's my assumtion that they were being convicted......any opinions? Answer: Maybe they left because it seems like there were some rather bizarre manifestations of the "spirit". Answer: To be honest with you, I probably would have left the room as well. Is your church charismatic? Not to sound too harsh or critical, but the lyrics you quoted are fairly vague and I don't see what they could've possibly convicted anyone of. I don't want to judge anyone's experiences, especially if I wasn't actually there, but it sounds to me like you got overwhelmed by the performance. I've had almost identical experiences, minus the fog, happen in bars while playing secular music. Answer: I like how you can't remember if the fog machine was on, or what exactly the lyrics to the song were, and how you can't figure out why people were walking out. What exactly DO you pay attention to if not the equipment, the songs, and the congregation? Oh, that's right... the Answer: Maybe they left because it seems like there were some rather bizarre manifestations of the "spirit". true....but...I found nothing unscriptural though.... Oh, that's right... the Let me run into your arms feel your heartbeat jesus hold me close never let me go (i think it's repeated) she just wrote it like 2 nights before the event.....I love how you just are so quick to judge it...seriously offended by your comment....we also played God is Great, Father of Lights, Open up the gates, you are holy, Jesus be close to my heart (cleft of the rock), here I am to worship, and Angels sing......wasn't paying attention to the people..........a little detail about the venue I didn't think necesarry to include....it is an ampitheatre...so everyone is above us...and there are a ton of par cans at the top of the seats pointnig down...so if we look up...all we see is a blinding amount of lights........ what did I notice about gear....hmmm....a guitar players strap lock broke in the final song....the microphone with red tape on it was on the fritz...don't think the sound man checked the battery before we started....the DMX lights behind me blew a fuse so they weren't working...... I just assumed "spirit mist" because it was completely unexplainable why it was there...again I never said I saw the people walk out...I heard about it afterwords........I know it would have been a wierd experience for anyone.....but you know what...I stand by my words...it was an increadible worship experience.....I've never felt so much freedom in my life....I'm still really upset about your remarks.... Strikes me as a risky assumption. fair enough...but I had other people mention it to me....not that it was a conviction saying....they're not holy enough...or etc...that's just rediculous...maybe that was a poor choice of word to use....we just felt that maybe people didn't know how to respond to this intensity....and also..from what I hear...because it was a new song..it was mostly the band worshiping....along with the faithfull live attenders....it's a really stupid venue too....doesn't let people move around at all... To be honest with you, I probably would have left the room as well. Is your church charismatic? it's a munti denominational event...none of the members attend the same church....we have pentecostals (me), baptists, presbs , anglicans and non denoms in the band...this is what makes it very interesting for me *edit* thank you for your opinions...I made it sound like I didn't care....but I do....I was just kinda showing my side... Answer: I would have (and have previously) walked out of that room...that is if I could keep myself from breaking the mood by quoting scripture aloud. These kind of events are very detrimental to spiritual growth, and I think you should take a long hard look at the fruits of these events. There wasn't a large multitude of people speaking in tounges was there? Answer: Originally Posted by jesusfreak86ca true....but...I found nothing unscriptural though.... I'm not trying to belittle your experience, I just think emotions can run high in a worship service. There wasn't a large multitude of people speaking in tounges was there? what would you say is wrong with it? And please let's not get into a debate on toungues....I believe in the use of toungues...Paul says it edifies our spirit....I think praying and speaking it tounges are two different things....etc...and yes there were people praying in tounges...but ya...no debate on that please Can you show me where it says in the Bible that screaming at the top of your lungs in a "worship" service is an acceptable form of worship? Psalm 47:1 Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. perhaps screaming wasn't the best term....it wasn't like just screaming randomly..she was shouting things like..."I love you god" it's jsut she's normally a very very very quiet person....so to see this was kind of amazing I should clarify...the singer on the ground was not "slain" she was in a kneeling position.....but eventually streched out to laying down completely...so people don't get mad mad at me for saying someone was slain...geez Answer: Well, here's two very simple reasons somebody could have walked out. You guys were up there going crazy, and these people just didn't know what you were doing. In essence, as leaders, you had left the people following too far behind. it's a munti denominational event...none of the members attend the same church....we have pentecostals (me), baptists, presbs , anglicans and non denoms in the band...this is what makes it very interesting for me They're part of a denomination that has different beliefs on the work of the Spirit than you. Also, you say "amphitheater"...like outside? Could explain the mist... Answer: That sounds like an awesome time experiencing the presence of the Holy Spirit. Sure, emotions can run high in different people, but that doesn't mean other people weren't touched in that service. For those who did not understand what was going on, they were probably scared or just confused about what in the world was going on. Just as in the book of Acts when the 120 were speaking in tongues and others thought they were drunk. I'm glad you experienced a very worshipful time, but your band seems to have lost sight of the congregation. Answer: Sounds like to me that God was really moving, though, I don't know why the people left. They could have thought everyone was stupid for worshipping like they did. I have seen people before that just sit there and don't get involved in worship, because they don't want to, and they then think everyone else is stupid because they are worshipping, to them it's seems stupid, to the people worshipping, its something more. They don't have to change their worship for them. It's funny how people can jump and shout for bands, and band members can go crazy. But when we jump and shout for God during worship, it's wrong.
