Looking for as many ideas as you can give me about music for P.D.L... have fun! :)
Question: Hey y'all. I've been put in co-charge (with our head music minister, of course) of weekend service music planning for our church's upcoming Purpose Driven Life "40 Days of Purpose" campaign. Now, I'm not too wild about gimmicky things like this, and I'm not really thrilled with what I have read of the book, but I would like to make the song selections for each of the services in the 40-day campaign appropriate to the topic(s) of each week's service, as well as as Scripturally and doctrinally sound as possible. As far as I can tell, there are six different weekly topics in the campaign. So, here they are; give me feedback on what songs y'all would recommend for each topic: Week 1) Purpose - "What on earth am I here for?" Week 2) Worship - "You were planned for God's pleasure." Week 3) Fellowship - "You were formed for God's family." Week 4) Discipleship - "You were created to become like Christ." Week 5) Ministry - "You were shaped for serving God." Week 6) Evangelism - "You were made for a mission." Give me as many ideas as you can come up with, even to the point of being superfluous. Don't worry about making stupid suggestions, either, because I'll feel free to throw out ideas I don't like. Discuss away! In His love, Nate Answer: I've always thought a good souped up version of Michael W. Smith's song "Place In This World" would be a good theme song for the Purpose Driven Life. Don't know if that helps, probably not. I'll look back at when we did that "campaign" and see what we did. Answer: Ok, let me add one stipulation to the "Don't worry about making stupid suggestions" clause: Mention MWS again and I will slay you. Ok, that's all. Please continue. In His love, Nate Answer: Hahaha... I just noticed that all the weekly topics after the first make use of alliteration. Crizzazy. Answer: Originally Posted by Nate Ok, let me add one stipulation to the "Don't worry about making stupid suggestions" clause: Mention MWS again and I will slay you. Ok, that's all. Please continue. In His love, Nate I'll second that. Nate'll slay ya, then I'll strangle ya. Cheapness aside, I'll put some brain cells to this tomorrow, Nate. Answer: The PDL website has ~a page of song suggestions for each week. Answer: We're doing the first week this week. Our "key" song, if you will, is going to be SCC's old song, "More to This Life". Fits. I don't like it, but it fits. Answer: Originally Posted by Jay Tea The PDL website has ~a page of song suggestions for each week. We know, all though there seems to be no connection between the songs listed and the actual program, it all seems very random. Answer: There's an awesome song we sing called "My Purpose" but it's written by a semi-local guy ... don't even know him... but our worship leader does. I wish it was recorded or written somewhere so I could give it to you. I'll think about this. Answer: Originally Posted by Jay Tea The PDL website has ~a page of song suggestions for each week. Yes... and it sucks... badly. Answer: How about The Missing Person by Michael W. Smith? Answer: *slays Parkway* Answer: Originally Posted by parkway How about The Missing Person by Michael W. Smith? Hey, that was a rocking song in its day. And some of us may still enjoy cranking that lead riff. Answer: Week 1) Purpose - "What on earth am I here for?" Week 2) Worship - "You were planned for God's pleasure." Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing ("Tune my heart to sing Thy grace") Holy, Holy, Holy ("All Thy works shall praise Thy name") Ancient of Days ("Every tongue in Heaven and Earth shall declare Your glory.") As The Deer ("...and I long to worship You.") Give Us Clean Hands God of Wonders (not just because it was the best recieved of any song we've ever played ) Heart of Worship I Could Sing of Your Love Forever I Will Exalt Your Name Lord Most High Salvation Belongs to Our God That's Why We Praise Him Crown Him With Many Crowns Week 3) Fellowship - "You were formed for God's family." The Church's One Foundation (yeah, it's a stretch ) Week 4) Discipleship - "You were created to become like Christ." Holiness ("... to Yours, to Yours, oh Lord.") Knowing You (not just because it's one of my favorite songs ) Lord, You Have My Heart (perhaps a bit of a stretch) Step by Step Week 5) Ministry - "You were shaped for serving God." Week 6) Evangelism - "You were made for a mission." Shout to the North Redeemed ("How I love to proclaim it" - Yes, it's a stretch) Who is on the Lord's Side? ("Who, for Him, will go?") That's all I can think of right now. Answer: Originally Posted by bobthecockroach The Church's One Foundation (yeah, it's a stretch ) I'll take just about any stretch necessary to play that song. It's so great. I was thinking "Jesus, Lover Of My Soul" as a sort of "theme song" for the campaign. The book opens with "it's not about you," yes? That's basically the theme of the song... "It's all about You, Jesus ... it's not about me ..." Thoughts? (from Daniel, and everyone else) In His love, Nate Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
