I Need some Opinions Please
Question: Heres my ? My girlfriend and i lead worship. We have a worship team, but the drummer, bass, and other guitarist are off to college. Here is what i am questioning. My pastor always wants someone else to be with my girlfriend and I. He always asks me to ask A friend of the teams that leads worship at a different church like once a month, or whenever he talks to a drummer he asks him if he is coming home from college for the weekend. His college is about an hour and a half away. I really dont think that 1 Guitar and 2 vocals sound that bad sometimes. Is it me? I know there can be a more fuller sound with more instruments but i dont understand it. Can someone give me their opinion. Answer: It might not have to do with the music at all, but perhaps he doesn't want the two of you on the platform together without a third person because of the status of your relationship; the fact that you are dating and not married. Other than that, I can't think of a reason why this is a concern.- Jonathan Answer: It could be because of the relationship, or because of the sonic emptiness, or because he think the relationship could get in the way of things (i.e., your emotions, feelings, thoughts for each other, etc), if you two are the only ones left in charge. I'm not sure how else to explain it, so I hope you get my drift. Basically, when two people are in a relationship, particularly a dating one before marriage, they have some pretty strong feelings for each other. If you two are leading, and nobody is up there who isn't feeling those feelings, then there's the possibility of it hindering your leadership ability. That's the best I can explain it... It could be either of these things, or a combination. Why don't you ask him? Answer: Originally Posted by Sonsice Heres my ? My girlfriend and i lead worship. Have him sing too, if he can (drummers usually can't sing ). Answer: I also recently lost most of our worship team to geographic relocations....found it to be a huge adjustment in worship "styles"....it is just me on guitar/piano and our drummer. We had to give our drummer a mic...and contrary to popular opinion...some drummers can actually sing in tune!!! I found that our worship actually was more sincere and flowed easier with less....sometimes that old Mies Van der Roe dictum that "less is more" can also apply to corporate worship. I believe that the Holy Spirit responds to our hunger and submission more than to our volume and sonic richness. The worship we now experience is more raw and authentic...and I found that as a worship leader I needed to depend on the Holy Spirit more...and less on the instrumentation of that worship. I now spend more time on my knees than in the practice jam session. As for your situation...talk to your pastor and listen to what he has to say....there is a reason that God placed him in authority over you in this season. Anyways...that's just my $.02 God Bless. P.S. Taylor Guitars Rock!!!! How do you like yours? Answer: Originally Posted by Sonsice Heres my ? My girlfriend and i lead worship. I have no desire to step on any toes or cause doubt. But.... One guitar with 2 vocalists can sound good and full. However, maybe it doesn't sound full when you two play. And instead of giving you direct constructive criticism he's indirectly trying to solve the problem without disussing it with you. I experienced that problem with a friend of mine leading worship for the high school. He wasn't asking for constructive criticism and was sensative to the comments given. So we tried to indirectly solve the problem so that we wouldn't hurt his feelings. Like I said, I haven't heard you play. I'm just describing something I experienced which is a possibility. Yeah I agree with this. I've experienced the same thing. We had to do it once with one (actually a few) of our musicians who wanted to "expand their musical horizions" (if I can put it that way). We knew them well enough to know that they wouldn't take kindly to the kind of criticism we were willing to offer, so we had to take more indirect approaches. Answer: Thank You for all your input. I've sort of been lightened on the issue. It's not a huge deal to me, but everything you guys said could make sense. And By the Way, I Love my Taylor Guitars. I wouldn't trade it for anything. OK Well maybe another Taylor. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
