3 Songs on Soundclick
Question: Hey. I just wanted to direct everybody over to my page on soundclick.com http://www.soundclick.com/jasonjouett Please listen to my 3 songs and let me know what you think. I would like any feedback. Good or bad. I know my vocals still needed some work at the time of recording, but I would really like to know what everyone thinks of the songwriting and music. You can also visit my website: http://www.geocities.com/jasonjouettmusic Thanks, Jason Answer: anybody listen yet? I'm interested in some feedback...good or bad. Thanks, Jason Answer: ok, this is only my opinion and you asked and I'm going to be honest. I just listen to half of your song and the music all had a nice little melody going good for an alternative kind of style, but the vocals just sound weak and like your bored or unsure???? However, i think that the words were great. This is just my opinion and I don't mean any harm. Don't give it up tho practice, practice, practice. Answer: I would have to agree with the other guy. You do sound kind of bored when you sing. The instruments were very good but once you came in on the singing the excitement died, not because of your voice but because the energy in it. I don't have the greatest voice either but I always try and make it something to listen to. If you want you can listen to a couple of mine like "Fields of Silence" if you want to get a sort of idea. Since I only play acoustic I have to make my voice interesting because I don't have the guitar skills to make up for it. I don't have the best voice but people say I make it work. Anyway, thats my advice. Try and strengthen your voice and work on vocal dynamics. Matthew Answer: Thanks. Yeah, I was only through my first semester of vocal lessons. I was never much of a singer. My strength is songwriting and guitar. I have now completed (almost) my second semester of vocal training and if I could go back and re-do them, I would. It would sound a lot better. But I already released the CD independently. It's a long story, but I've been working on this CD for 6 months with just re-doing the vox. Try listening to the other songs; they might not sound as "tired". Thanks again for the honesty. Jason Answer: To be honest, the music is very, very good. I was very taken by your musical stylings. However, as people have said - the vocals are not very good. It's off-key for the most part, and not in the pleasant, Weezer/Pedro the Lion kind of way. I would recommend either bringing in a friend to sing vocals (maybe a female vocalist?). Or just keeping working on your vocals. You do seem to be holding back...I'm not a world-class singer, but I've improved a great deal in the past couple months just goofing around because a couple friends have encouraged me to just plunge into it with abandon and energy. Don't be afraid of your voice. And lastly, the lyrics are...not very good. Trying to be honest here. They're very obvious and very cliche. The music to me is robbed more by the lyrics than by the vocals. Answer: Originally Posted by Starboard Wake To be honest, the music is very, very good. I was very taken by your musical stylings. I actually have an explanation for why the vox are not all that great. I never really tried to sing until a couple years ago when I first started writing these songs. I tuned down 1/2 step because I really couldn't sing (at all) back then. I recorded all the instrumentation like that. I waited a year and a half, took a semester of vocal lessons, and tried jumping in to re-do the vox. I had a hard time with the tuning cause I could actually sing better with regular tuning. I was tired of these songs, so that may be why I sound bored. At the time of writing these songs a few years ago, I was listening to a LOT of cliche Christian music, hence the cliche songwriting. I realize that. There are a few other songs on my CD that aren't so cliche. I've improved in songwriting over the last couple years and I've definately improved my singing the last 4-5 months. Thank you for the criticism, and again, I take it constructively. It will only make me improve. I really appreciate the honest feedback, please keep it coming. Jason Answer: I can't seem to get to the site to listen to them it keeps saying that there was no search results for it. I don't know why. Is there another way to get to it?
