Question: hey guys i'm new... i was wondering... as far as songwriting goes, what do you think makes a good song from a bad one? If you look at the first posts in this forum.. they are stickied. There is one on songwriting tips and such. They offer some very good advice! As far as my personal opinion... There are a couple different ways you have to look at songs in this forum. 1. Some are Praise and Worship style 2. Some are filled with imagery 3. Some are short, sweet, and simple Number One: These songs aren't supposed to be filled with imagery and overflowing with thoughtful ideas. They are somewhat simple, yet they have to have a certain theme about them which draws the reader/listener in. Number Two: These are my favorite! I write this way more often than any other. Some would call it poetry.. but I just think that it's catchy lines with a craftiness above cliches.. Number Three: These are the hardest to critique when you can't listen to them. As you'll see... some people post music samples with their songs.. but most people do not. So, when it comes to critiquing them, (or just reading them) you have to think, "Does this sound original? Is it different from most other songs? Does it flow smoothly?" IMO, good songs should stand well on their own two lyrical feet.. You can have great music and put it to awful lyrics, and it'd probably still be playing on the radio ten times a day.. but if you have great lyrics and great music.. it's just Great (X2). Hope this helped some.. Blessings, Swank Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
