2 new songs (RC)
Question: hey guys we have recently been studying psalms in my housegroup and these 2 songs came from that. let me know what you think! -------------------------------------- Eternal God: verse 1: Awesome God, Creator of the universe Almighty King, Ruler of the world Through you all things came into being You have the power to give and take away verse 2: You brought your people from the land of slavery Through the desert to their promised home You even loved them when they turned against you And blessed them when they turned to other Gods chorus: Eternal God, in awe of You we stand Not by our own strength but by Your loving hand The hands that formed us were pierced for our sin That we might enter where we’re not fit to go in verse 3: What kind of love, to give Your only son Who was with You before the dawn of time In order that these sinful human beings Might be known as sons and daughters of the Lord bridge: Lord you are clothed in splendour Your name resounds forever (repeat) (btw the lack of rhyming in the verses is deliberate!) --------------------------------------- Praise the Lord o my soul: verse 1: Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth Join with the heavens and praise His name For the Lord is good, he is good And His love endures so I will praise chorus 1: Praise the Lord o my soul All within me praise His name For He is good, He is mighty Holy, merciful and true verse 2: In His hand is righteousness And from His throne justice flows By His word the weak are made strong And the poor made rich so I will praise chorus 2: Praise the Lord o my soul All within me praise His name For He is good, He is mighty, holy, merciful He’s righteous, worthy, wonderful Enthroned in splendour, crowned in majesty Praise the Lord o my soul All within me praise His name For He is good, He is mighty Holy, merciful and true -------------------------------- any thoughts? God Bless, Rich (ps you can download a 3 of my songs from here) Answer: Originally Posted by I-Am-Snappy hey guys we have recently been studying psalms in my housegroup and these 2 songs came from that. let me know what you think! Sweet! I'm a fan of songs from the Psalms, especially well written ones like you've got here. chorus: Eternal God, in awe of You we stand Not by our own strength but by Your loving hand The hands that formed us were pierced for our sin That we might enter where we’re not fit to go in This is an absolutely fantastic chorus. The third line is especially good. My only criticism of this song is that the verses are a little blunt, stating and telling us instead of showing us. The Psalms contain some fantastic imagery and metaphors; take advantage of that! --------------------------------------- Praise the Lord o my soul: verse 1: Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth Join with the heavens and praise His name For the Lord is good, he is good And His love endures so I will praise chorus 1: Praise the Lord o my soul All within me praise His name For He is good, He is mighty Holy, merciful and true verse 2: In His hand is righteousness And from His throne justice flows By His word the weak are made strong And the poor made rich so I will praise chorus 2: Praise the Lord o my soul All within me praise His name For He is good, He is mighty, holy, merciful He’s righteous, worthy, wonderful Enthroned in splendour, crowned in majesty Praise the Lord o my soul All within me praise His name For He is good, He is mighty Holy, merciful and true I like this. It's simple praise, which definitely has its place. I think it might be a little more powerful if you included examples of what God has done for you. David often wrote specifically of times that God rescued him from his enemies and such. Just an idea. Answer: thankyou My only criticism of this song is that the verses are a little blunt, stating and telling us instead of showing us this was kinda intentional, a lot of the psalms are like that i think. sometimes we just need to state how great God is! The Psalms contain some fantastic imagery and metaphors; take advantage of that! i'm definately trying to use that more, i'm not particularly linguistically gifted so most of my stuff comes direct from the bible (also that way i can be pretty sure it's scripturally sound!!) I think it might be a little more powerful if you included examples of what God has done for you. David often wrote specifically of times that God rescued him from his enemies and such. Just an idea. i have done that sometimes but it often seems to end up being 'me me me', i like to avoid talking about me as much as possible, that is definately overdone in modern worship music. also often the psalms are written in such a way that so many people can relate to them in many ways but i am not that good at writing to have that sort of openess. i will definately bear it in mind though and i will try and work on it. thanks for your comments skeeter if anyone else has any thoughts they would be greatly appreciated.
