help mentoring vocalist
Question: on our praise team, we currently have 4 female vocalists... 2 of us have been there awhile and are pretty experienced, the other 2 are younger girls. They've been with us since January. One of the girls was away through the summer and just rejoined us last night for practice. There's a slight possibility that the problem we're running into is because she's out of practice, but I doubt it... we noticed that she's having problems carrying a tune. We noticed it last spring, but it was hard to tell which girl it was because they always stood beside each other. I don't want to kick her off the team or anything horrible like that... what I'd like, though, is suggestions on how to help her. Or just generally what to do... advice away! Answer: Well, what I would do is get all the vocalists together and do vocal exercises together. I do this with the youth at my church, and the atmosphere of having EVERYONE doing it really helps the ones who need it the most. Answer: Find someone to take her place, but don't kick her out. They can sing the same part together kind of thing... or maybe she could do back up? Peace and love, Rhonda. Answer: These situations are always difficult. Whatever you do(and I don't think you would do anything like this), don't do anything underhanded. Be open and honest about whatever you do. You may just find that turning down her microphone a little bit may solve the problem. She may learn to sing more in tune, and then it could be turned up. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
