how do i create guitar feedback?

Question:
hey, i was wondering how to cause guitar feedback from an amp. if you don't know what i mean, you can usually hear it at the beginning of some songs. i'm pretty sure it has to do with the volume knobs and a really high gain.
can someone help me with this?
Answer:
Yes... turn stuff way up and stand right it front of your amp.
Answer:
thanks!
Answer:
Note that different positions relative to the amp will result in different amounts of feedback and different feedback frequencies.
Answer:
got to make sure it's not digital... tried with a line 6 digital combo amp... didn't work... lol
(correct me if i am wrong)

(correct me if i am wrong) you can do it, if it's loud enough...you don't even need a high gain setting. I used to get feedback all the time just using my Strat, a 2x12 cab and a tubescreamer clone set for a light OD.

I had a microphonic tube last week as my reverb driver. I was getting some weirded out feedback on a totally clean channel.

OK, you're wrong.
I can get feedback with my little Spider II easily enough. I can also get feedback when playing through a Digitech Genesis, run through a Digidesign M-Box, into and out of the Mac, back through the M-Box, through the stereo amp and into the Tannoy's.
Feedback isn't about analog or digital, it's about the signal getting from the speakers back to the pickups. The route matters little.

Thanks for the correction. I tried but to no avail to get feedback... so i made an assumption about digital amps...
btw, what is "Tannoy's?"

btw, what is "Tannoy's?" Tannoy is a speaker manufacturer. Tannoys are probably either studio monitors or some other stereo speaker setup.
Answer:
I'm pretty sure that the mechanism that causes feedback is more related to sympathetic vibrations of the strings, and in the case of acoustics, the top. When the sound is loud, the vibrations in the air causes the strings to vibrate. Sort of like when you make sound by shouting at your strings.
