Introducing new songs
Question: Hi everyone, I'm sure this thread has appeared in many different forms over the years, but here it is again. What's happening: I'm organising a youth camp for May. A large part of the youth camp is going to be worship. Last year we did it, but the group who went only came from our youth group and one other youh ministry that we had been meeting with monthly for a couple of years. The worship team was pretty much our youth with a couple of members from the other group. This year there are four different youth groups going on the camp. The combined band for the camp is going to have several more people in it (approx 15+). There will be a roster for the camp, but for practice we have multiple people needing to practice the same instrument eg. three drummers, two keyboardists, two bass players etc. We try to learn new songs for the camp. This year we will probably be learning three or four new songs. We are having four pratices of about an hour and a half in length. What i'm interested in, is input on how you guys have, or would learn new songs in such a group? I'm kind of thinking of splitting the singers and muso's up for a bit and each learning the different bits of songs. Any more ideas? Answer: When we want to play a new song for worship, we just basically listen to the song very carefully several times before trying to imitate it. If your praise team has been playing together for a while then you probably will not have to imitate because after a while, it seems that bands tend to create their own 'style'. But from what i'm reading, you put together a new band. So I say try and imitate the song. i hope what i said, was relevant to your question good luck! Answer: We usually listen to the song a few times. The next step we usually take is to play along with the recording until we feel we have a decent grasp on the rhythm and "feel" of the song. Hope that helps! Answer: Yeah. I would say listen and play. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
