Learning Guitar Neck

Question:
Short of buying a book [insert poor college student story here], is there any method/site that anyone can recommend to help me break out of the pentatonic "box"? I would really like to become more proficient in playing in different positions for the same key, but am finding it quite challenging. Is there any unique method or patter that I'm missing?
Thanks
-T
Oh, and a private/group teacher isn't really that plausible right now [refer to poor student story, and add in the "busy-ness" factor of an engineering major]
Answer:
Chesh should be through here sometime telling the wonders of Fretboard Logic. Seriously, for thirteen bucks it is a very good investment. It really helps expand the fretboard and show you how everything is related. If you're looking for a "pattern" Fretboard SE is probably a very good book for you.
For free lessons just try different sites. I don't know if Cyberfret.com is still around, but it used to be alright. It even had a basic lesson on the CAGED sequence, which Fretboard Logic teaches in depth.

yeah i just got mine not too long ago
Answer:
FBL seems like it's perfect for someone in your exact situation, sir.
Answer:
FBL for the win. I wasted about $150 on other guitar books and finaly a buddy lent me his FBLS SE with DvD. Learned more in 3 days with FBL than in 3 years with Mel Bay and many others .

Hmmmmm.....I'm starting to see a pattern here...
Perhaps I can get if for a b-day gift or something. I can barely afford gas right now to get to school....so I'll probably stick with the online CAGED lessons at cyberfret.
Thanks guys!

If any of you guys are interested, I've just completed a 3 year project writing a 384 page encyclopedia of scale, mode, and arpeggio fingerings for the advanced/advancing guitarist. The material is presented in block diagrams, tablature, and standard notation. More importantly, the book contains a vast amount of Biblical scripture and teaching regarding worship and praise. I felt compelled to undertake this project for 2 reasons: First, to help equip Christian guitarists, and second, to hopefully introduce many "pre-Christian" guitarists to how awesome God is and how much He says/thinks about music.
I don't show much of this Biblical material in the book preview as I don't want to turn off folks who may have an aversion to the Bible. However, on probably over half he pages in the book there is a scripture or Biblical insight regarding playing the guitar in small print at the bottom of the page. Also, here and there throughout the book there are 1 page sections covering topics such as engaging the Holy Spirit while playing, a study of music in the Tabernacle of David, the use of music in warfare in the Old Testiment, etc.
Here is a link to the book
I'm marketing the book as a secular guitar study book, but my hope is that guitarists who do not yet know the Lord will buy it for the guitar material and upon reading all the Biblical material in the book will be drawn to the Lord.
If you aren't into this type of study, I sure would appreciate any prayers that God will use this book to introduce at least one guitarist out there to the Lord.
Many blessings,
David
