learning how to play harmony with a guitar
Question: okay harmony, i know how to sing harmony. some chords like E/G# and G/B have the bass as the harmony (i think) and what not, but how do you play harmony with a guitar? how do you know what notes to play? if someone is playing a standard E progression : E B C#m A, would arpeggiating F# C Dm Bb work well? or what about using scales, should i play the E pattern 3 steps up and have F# be my root? i know its all over the place, let me know if i can clear anything up lol thanks guys Answer: I've personally never heard of it being done... I guess you could play a third or a fifth above the other guitar.. it'd be different though... Answer: Not fifths, for the love of God! 3rds and 6ths work well. Answer: Are you trying to ask about playing lead riffs like in P&W? Because most of those guy just walk up and down scales of whatever chord is being played... Answer: I'm just talking about avoiding parallel 5ths. They suck. Answer: I was speaking to the OP Answer: Originally Posted by MrCrabby Not fifths, for the love of God! 3rds and 6ths work well. So, if the other guitarist is playing an open C chord, could the appropriate harmonizing chord be played as an open C shape, capo on the 3rd or 6th fret? Answer: No, I don't think so. Apparently I misunderstood, I was talking about playing single notes. Answer: how do you make that super high pitched sound when you solo? is it a pinch harmonic? or..
