Starting a Youth Band at my Church.

Question:
I have recently been asked if I would like to start up a youth band in my new Church and of course I said yes since I've already been playing acoustic for the youth services. Anywho I am looking for some good youth christian songs. I have a few already that I think I will use but I want some more good songs. I can play anything from alternative rock(possibly a little on the metal side) christian stuff too soft/slower acoustic songs at the services. So any song recommendations??
THANKS
Answer:
I would recommend Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman songs. Theyre easy to play and great for Praise and Worship. There are waaaay more artists but i would recommend these artists for starting out.
Answer:
**websites/myspaces/soundclicks would be awesome w/ any recommendations**
I have heard of Chris Tomlin but I'll check out Matt Redman.
Well difficulty level isnt a huge issue for me
Thanks samkim for the recommendations.
Answer:
I would say the Big 5, as I call them, would be good to check out. Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, David Crowder, Charlie Hall, and Hillsong United.
Answer:
check out songs that they do live from passion
Answer:
thanks kenny c. Im digging quite a few of those guys songs.
Im trying to think of this one artist right now maybe one of you guys can help me out. There was this straight up acoustic version of "wrap me in your arms" its not the one that the intro goes into an Em7 its the one that goes Bm7sus-A/C#sus-D-G and then has an acoustic lead played over it for most the song. Anyone know which guy covered it?
**Jon Egan (Desperation Band)**
Answer:
Undignified from Davey Crowder has worked amazingly at my youth group
Answer:
I would go to your local christian bookstore and buy one of the newer passion songbooks. They are about $15-$20 and have enough songs to get the praise band off to a nice start.
What other instruments will be playing with you?
Answer:
oh oh! i have some
i'm in a similar situation, except my band mates aren't as interested as me in playing some cooler songs just for fun but i've made a list of some awesome songs that are super fun, here goes...
all who are thirsty -- kutless
Beautiful -- AA
Unforgetful You -- Jars of clay
You are a child of mind -- Mark schultz
Days of Elijah
we wanna see jesus lifted high
take me in
Let it rise
famous one
every move i make
In the burning - something like silas
tonight - jeremy camp
my glorious - delerious? (i recently heard this done live, its AWESOME! i even heard it done is spanish and it still rocked)
breathe you in - TFK
i wait for the lord - Jeremy camp
here is our king - david crowder band
breathe - micheal w. smith
i dare you to move - switchfoot
and then almost any song from the beatiful letdown CD by switchfoot would work too. if you want sound clips, pm me for my email adress or look at my profile for my msn or w/e.
p.s. alot of those i got from just scrolling through the four WOW cd's and the X cd's i have, those are great for finding good praise material.

Using Switchfoot in congregational worship?

Answer:
really? just some that pop into my head,
this is your life
dare you to move
on fire
and there are some others that would be just right in certain situations. also, my suggestions were leaning a little more towards youth worship, but most (if not all) would work in a contemporary worship setting.
Answer:
yah dunno bout switchfoot
I know nearly every switchfoot song so playing them would make my half easier but idk how good they are for worshipping IMO.. they maybe fun and all so I might use a couple before hand but for youth worship im just not sure if switchfoot is good for that.
Umm we'll have a full band up there once I find them all. Drummer, Keyboard, Rythyme and lead Guitar, Bass, Vocals, then possible other instruments like violin, flute, sax, trumpet ect. will be used occasionally since I know our youth group is fairly musically talented. I will play just straight up acoustic as soon as I dont have to worry about being a lead and rythyme guitarist.
Answer:
Pretty much anything from Hillsongs United goes over well with youth.
