Guitar Trick

Question:
I'm pretty sure this is the right forum.
Okay, I love this Keith Urban song called 'Stupid Boy' partly because I just love the song, mostly because I love listening to the guitar in it.
Okay, theres this part near the end were the solo has reached it's pintical and he's finished singing. And the guitar does this start, stop, start, stop thing on one note really fast and it sounds really cool.
How does he do that? Does he use some kind of effect to turn the sound of his guitar on and off? Or what?
To see the video/hear the song:

Thanks!
Answer:
Sounds like he's just muting and picking alternatively at a fast rate. If it were a tremolo pedal, it would be a lot choppier.
Answer:
are you talking about the solo? yeah its crazy.
i love keith urban, its good to see other country listeners on CGR.
do you guys know how he does that sick pick scrape? its like hes scraping a note
Answer:
He scrapes the pick from about the 18th fret down, and its just the tone of the guitar and amp that makes it sound good.
Answer:
I love stupid boy but it is depressing since yeah you know but yeah i like the guitar part at the end. some of rob zombie's and butthole surfers songs have good guitar parts if you're into that type of music.

i love keith urban, its good to see other country listeners on CGR. Not the solo that his guitarist does in the radio version. The solo Keith does in the video. The video goes on for like 2-3 minutes after the radio version ends.

By the way, I love country.
Answer:
oh of course the video solo, the solo he does on the radio sucks like suck suck
