Cleared Some Stuff From My Songlist...
Question: Looked at two years of music and these must go.... In some cases, we overplayed them. In some cases, we never got the feel nailed down. Some, well...some just should have never been added to the list. All The Earth Will Sing Your Praises For The Lord Our God Reigns Hallelujah Here I Am To Worship I Want The Joy Let Everything That Has Breath Let It Rise Pour Out My Heart Sing To The King Worship You Worship You Forever Yahweh Jireh Answer: Man, I wish I could get our worship leader to do that. We did 'I Walk by Faith' this morning..and I nearly cried. We do several songs on your list that I'd like to axe as well. That one was so overdone in our church that it's one of the first songs I banned forever when I took over last year. The Pastor said that I was an answer to prayer. Some others that I put on "hiatus" for similar reasons, mostly due to being overused ad nauseum for too many years: It is the cry of my heart (She did it like twice a month...It had become the cry of my ears) We bow down (We bow downnnnnnnnn...and wear out this song. We bow dowwwwwwwwwwwn, and wear out this song. We bow dowwwwwwwwwn...and wear out this song.,...Wear out this song all year lonnnnnnnng!!) Lord I lift your name on high (Puleeeze!!!) Every Step I Take (Naa na nana na na naaa...again...Puleeze!) Breathe (And IiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiIiiiiiiiiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiIiiii...I'm lost without you....And IiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiIiiiiiiiiiii sound like I'm in great pain....) Come into His presence (The instrumental intro sounds like the beginning of a hootnanny) Forever (At least for several months as we literally have been doing it...Forever) I had also considered giving "Open the Eyes of My Heart" a break but it still seems to be hanging in there. Killer guitar intro too. There are several more that are wearing thin on me, and I'm sure everyone else. I inherited the music ministry with an inventory of 50 songs however, so it's an ongoing process to add new and take out the old. "My Savior My God" has been one of our most well received additions ever. The people can't seem to get enough of it. I am going to be careful not to overdo it however. Answer: LOL Yeah, Joe, that's the one! Week before last we did 'I Could Sing of Your Love Forever and ever and over and over, ad naseum' And we're doing 'Forever' this week... but I get to play bass this week, so at least it'll be a little different for me. "I want the joy"...is that the one that goes "I want the joy of the Lord to come down, I want the joy of the Lord to fall now, I want the joy of the Lord in my life"? If so, that's another classic tune that gets done once every blue moon. The rest of those I've either never heard, are not familiar to me by name or have never done and, honestly, some I refuse to. "Let everything that has breath" does nothing for me as a song. As Scripture it's a different story... We just brought in Lincoln Brewster's version of "Everlasting God" this past weekend and I can see us doing that one for a bit. I'm also going to bring in Tommy Walker and Jacob Park's arrangement of "The Lord's Prayer" and Tommy's song "All the Saints Join In" which is inspired by Psalm 148.
