Standard tab "spacing"
Question: Hi, I've been a guest user for a couple years. I finally want to try submitting a few tabs, but I haven't ever written them out on a computer. I know that I should use Courier New font size 10, but is there any standard for spacing? How many dashes should be given for four beats? That's the sort of thing I'm not sure about. I hope this isn't in the wrong forum section. Answer: I don't usually use any cirtain amount of spacing on my tabs. If you know the song and want to learn it you usually know how long and stuff the notes are so if you just put the notes with at least one dash between the notes you should be good. For chords and stuff maybe a little bit more spacing Answer: All right, thanks. I just want to do a good job the first time around. Answer: Hmm... you might try this template out: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/submi...s_template.txt That's the standard for ultimate-guitar.com. and, I've found it easier to use notepad instead of Word. Not as many autocorrect/formatting/layout issues to worry about. Answer: Thanks. I worked on one of them last night and it's almost ready to submit. They take longer to write out than I first expected...and this one's not even a hard song. Answer: I had to tab out "Fever" for a recent performance - this is how i did it... G|-^---^---^---^---|-^---^---^---^---|-^---^---^---^---| D|-^---^---^---^---|-^---^---^---^---|-2---^---^---^---| A|-^---^---3---^---|-^---^---3-3-^---|-^---^---^---^---| E|-5---^---^---^---|-5---^---^---5---|-^---^---4---^---| totally unconventional, i know... but i found the original i found on the internet gave no impression of timing. I used the top hat symbol to punctuate the 4 beats to the bar. quavers fill the gaps in between and there's still gaps between the numbers. I wrote the words on top roughly in time with the music. As a bass player, i found the punctuation of timing really helpful. the "^" symbol was a little distracting, so i tried it with the "~" symbol, but it blended a little too well with the "-" symbols. I ended up reverting to the "^" but making the numbers bold to stand out more - that worked a treat. dunno if this is any help to anyone?? Dom. I know this is about a week old but I REALLY like what you've done here. I have developed a strong hatred of tab because there is no indication of time. I teach guitar so i have students come in all the time with tab to some song i've never heard (and of course they don't bring a cd!) and then get mad because I can't teach them how to play it. Or i'm 'not playing it right'. For crying out loud, learn how to read music! This is a HUGE step in the right direction. It maintains all the essential elements of tab that people love but gives a feel of time which is neccisity. Good job! I will probably steal this idea! -shane Answer: Originally Posted by v8seriesone I had to tab out "Fever" for a recent performance - this is how i did it... I wish all tab had some indicator like that. Answer: glad you guys liked it - thanks for the posts - i'm touched! Dom. Answer: eh-hem power tab did anyone hear that? eh-hem power tab what was that? honestly though, power tab kicks butt. has perfect timing signatures and all that, plus it has an interface that allows you to tab quickly once you get used to it. google it if you like, i'm too lazy Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
