Hello I just started playing or learning different chords and how to read tabs on a guitar. I don't have the speed but would like to learn how to play a song using a simple tab. Maybe I am even phaseing that wrong. Hey I said I was a beginner about 1 week now . How long did it take you guys to get the speed or learn songs etc. God bless.

I have only been playing guitar a year soulharvest
I taught myself and now I play for youth band And I'm in a band
If you learn how to read tab its easy.
Just play the song on the cd or what ever and try to play with it what the tab says
Now the problem with tabs is that not every body can hear music by ear good.
You will find alot of tabs out there that are wrong.
Just try to play what you think sounds the best.
Don't give up and just keep trying!

yeah just keep at it buddy it takes alot of practaice.
my advise would be to get a teacher.
it took me 3 years to get real good by teaching myself.
a teacher would be a great resourse.

Thank you I needed that. I know that it will take time. I am taking lessons right now and I have an idea of how to read tabs. My problem is switching to different chords. It seems hard because I just started. Once again thank you for the encouragement.

Yes I am taking lessons and that makes it easier. I couldn't do it on my own. But this site is pretty cool.

hey, i've been playing for 3 years, and i still don't have the speed to play solos and stuff....but i can do rythem....but chord changes come pretty easy pretty quick.....just keep pluggin' away at it...that's what i'm doing...

The numbers on the tab are frets - the bottom line is the low E and it goes up from there.Quick example:

-5-7
-5-7
-3-5
This means first play the 3rd fret on the low E, and the 5th frets on the A and D stings at the same time (a G power chord)
Then switch to 5th fret, E string, 7th fret on the A and D (A power chord)
Get it?
The only thing is that it doesnt show you rythem or timing, ususally.

this means the first note is open E, second note is 6th fret A, third 7th D, fourth 5th G, 5th 4th D, etc.....read it like a book....
