How great thou art ( by Third Day)
Question: Can't find tab for this anywhere can anyone help me? Answer: Please email me when you find the tabs for "How Great Thou Art" by Third Day. I love it. Thanks. Ron Hood rhood11@cox.net Answer: i am pretty sure that 3D has never recorded that song. go post this question on the third day boards (www.thirdday.com/boards) if you want a definite answer. Answer: Charlie Hall did it on Passion: Hymns Ancient and Modern /csong...Great-Thou-Art Answer: Originally Posted by onebrickshy Charlie Hall did it on Passion: Hymns Ancient and Modern /csong...Great-Thou-Art Hi onebrickshy, I had a look at your link above and tried the chords but they didnt work with my version. Now let me take a minute to explain my version. I have a file called "Third Day- How Great Thou Art (acoustic guitar instrumental).mp3", so obviously there is no vocals in the song, just a lead guitarist playing improv/melody and a rhythm guitarist playing ever so sweetly as accompaniment. Now I couldnt seem to find this song title anywhere on Third Days discography when I went looking so I cant say for sure who it's by, but I just want to know if everyone in this thread is comparing apples with apples if you know what I mean. Anyway, back to the link above, as I said, those chords didnt work for me while trying to play accompaniment with the file I have, instead I thought the following worked better: No Capo Verse: D | D | G | G | D | A | D | A7 :| x2 Chorus: D | G | D | D | Em7 | A | D | A7 :| x2 I just used open fingering at the Nut, there are variations during intro & outro, and I'm not to sure but I suspect a couple of those G's may be variations as well, like dampening the top 1st string G and using the D note on the 2nd string as a substitute (I know it has a name, but I forget what it is). I think this is the basis of the chord pattern but the voicing is not exactly accurate, and it plays rather well with the copy I have. SO, What copy do I have???? PM me if you want to swap notes. Thank you kindly for putting up with my banter. RD Answer: Ok guys, I just went looking for the origins of the file I have and found it here. Scroll down on that page and you can preview a small portion of the track (How Great Thou Art). This version however is credited to Russ Freeman. The album is called Sounds of Wood and Steel. Anyone know where to find Russ Freeman TABS??? *edit* I hope this is the version Tankk & Ron Hood were talking about. Answer: i'm pretty sure that it is vince gill and possibly amy grant who did that particular track, not third day. oh well. Answer: Thanks mate, I took the amazon sites properties of the clip as being correct, which they were not. (ie. not Russ Freeman) But looking around more sites the track is actually credited to Amy Grant and Vince Gill as you say. I had a hard time believing this at first due to my impression of both artists being known for their vocal work, not their guitar work on instrumental tracks. Anyway, I have TABbed just over half of the Lead part and hope to be finished by the weekend. However I'm writing it using 'Guitar Pro 5' and the only export functions are either .bmp or .pdf for written TAB. I guess if I end up posting it here I will have to rewrite in standard text file TAB. Please let me know if you have mucked around with it, or if you have any ideas on the chord voicings used for the rhythm part. I'd love to know what you think is going on back there.... Thanks. Answer: I submitted a TAB to the main archive however I am unsure how it will be categorized by artist when there are two artists - Amy Grant & Vince Gill. This being my first TAB submission I don't know how long it will take to appear in the archive, but at least it should come up under the title of the song (How Great Thou Art) no matter how the artists are categorized. I think this version is quite obscure, the only album I can find it on is the one listed above - Sounds of Wood & Steel I tried to paste a copy of my TAB in here but the formatting gets a little corrupted and it's not as clear as when it's viewed in a standard .txt file. If anyone wants a .txt version, either PM me here or request a copy via email. Thanks. Answer: Just thought I'd post a small sample (just over 1 minute) of this track. At least this way, people won't get this instrumental confused for anything else with the same name. Thanks. Answer: I was able to post it directly on TABwiki under the Amy Grant category.
