DVD/Video Production degree
Question: i just enrolled in Baker college's DVD/Video production program, i told my counceller that something like that would be something i could see myself doing HOWEVER i have no experiance with editing or recording anything! she said to me "thats why you are enrolling to learn it." is that just a pitch to get my money for school or can i go into a field in college that i know nothing about and still succeed in the real world when i come out of it? Answer: Moved to Occupations and Careers since it would fit better over there. Of course I guess it could go into College Life also. As a side note - isn't this the whole point of going to college. To learn skills that we don't have to get into fields that we really don't know anything about. When I started college I didn't know a whole lot about my current career. But was taught a lot that gave me the skills I needed to suceed in my job. ~3e3c3e Answer: I think if you apply thine self and pray, you will be successful. Answer: It really depends on how much time you put in to it. I changed degrees about halfway through school to Mass Comm, and put in lots of time with the equipment. I feel I'm a pretty decent editor. They won't just dump you in a room and say go (though I believe that sometimes that is the best thing to do), they're going to teach you. Answer: I'm entering the Radio, Television, and Film program at Capital University here in ohio and I've taken a Video Art Production course at the local community college... most of the class have very little or no experience... especially on the technical side. an awful lot of video/film students are "artsy fartsy" folks who enjoy watching movies... but have never tried making one. In my opinion the primary reason to go to college for video/film is to meet similar people while learning new skills. Example: I took the Video course at the community college, we had a video festival as our final exam (I came in 2nd) but two other students from a different class were there. they got my eamil address from the professor and we got together and started working on a feature length DV movie. We are now in the final stages of production... have worked with 30 actors, we even had a nightclub closed down for a few hours one night. Now the nieghbor of one of the other producers has a friend who wants a commercial shot... so maybe we get to do a commercial. etc. Success is a matter of meeting people, and doing things with those people...
