Sister problem
Question: Alright, I'm in need of advice. My sister recently went away to college. She started having prayer sessions with her now-finacee's dad, along with some other college students. Soon, this guy had created his own religion, and she joined. This religion is etremely based on his nterpretation of the bible. Also, they do not believe in the eucharist, and don't believe that being a good person will get you into heaven, just that you must believe in God. I have a feeling this is the now-finacee, then boyfriend urging her to change. After they had dated for 3 months, they got engaged. This the girl who made me sit in the living room with them so he wouldn't hit on her. This the girl who spoke nothing but bad about him for years. She wont listen to anyone, and I have a feeling especially God. She thinks that she understands every bit of the bible, at 21. What can I do to get her back on the right path? His "new religion" doesn't sound far off from Christianity at all. Being good will not get you into heaven. You took the words from my mouth. here's some scripture to back that up though: For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 Believing in (and following) God and God's word is all you need to do. I'm unfortunatly not too familiar with the eucharist (at least not by name. There's a chance I'll read about it and say "Oh that".) so I can't comment on that too much right now. Lord's supper, Catholic style Answer: Originally Posted by BillSPrestonEsq Lord's supper, Catholic style Essentially, the bread is literally the body and the wine is literally the blood? Answer: not all christians believe in transubstantiation [/captianobvious] Answer: Maybe you should be more clear about what you feel is heretical about this man's religion. Salvation by grace is our view on here, and many on here don't believe in transubstantiation during the Lord's supper either. We might end up joining this guy's 'religion'! Answer: Originally Posted by Chris Essentially, the bread is literally the body and the wine is literally the blood? well technically eucharist just refers to the cup, but it is usually used in this manner by Catholics who view it in a transubstantial manner. It is a term sometimes used by protestants as well, but not very commonly. Answer: Originally Posted by Beyer413 This religion is etremely based on his nterpretation of the bible. Well, obviously our minds have to interpret what we read to understand and make sense of it. What interpretations do you draw from Scripture, or do you only believe what you're told about God's word? If the latter is the case, then I would be more worried about what you yourself believe than your sister. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
