Basically its when the pop-up ads on the internet keep popping up & the whole thing freezes up on me & then & have to get off the internet then back on. its like i'm drinking or something like i can't stop. But i got it down a little bit. & its when i can't take something to a point where i swear. But other than that i'm fine. so can someone help me with this? Anyone have advice?
Answer:
I'll move this to the advice forum, where you'll get better....advice.

Answer:
This may sound stupid but everytime you swear slap yourself in the face, it works best in pucblic because then you'll be too embarrassed to slap yourself and you'll soon stop swearing. It worked for me anyways.
Answer:
hmm... I say just don't talk.
Answer:
Actually, that sounds like really poor advice, sorry.

While many on these forums (including myself) do not believe that there is an inherent sinfulness in using cuss words, when and where you use these words certainly requires discretion to say the least. Where the Bible talks about keeping a clean tongue is in refrence to preserving the sanctity of God's name and not using it in vain.

Also, if you have a problem in particular with insulting and putting people down with cuss words, which is, by the way, a problem, consider this. What's the difference between calling somebody an "ass" and calling them an "idiot" if in both cases you truly meant what you said? If I've gotten anything out of the discussion of cuss words, it's a realization of just how often I have a slanderous tongue yet think I'm okay because I generally avoid cuss words when refferring to people.

To sum this up, anything using the Lord's name in vain or defaming another person is off-limits. Whether the words you use are cuss words or not is irrelevant, unless you're in a public environment where cussing is generally taboo or unacceptable (once again, use discretion as to maintain a strong witness).

Answer:
I suggest you come up with interesting alternative words that are more fun to say and less offensive to your personal convictions. For example, instead of saying "Shit!", you might exclaim something like "Jabberwocky!" or "Bandersnatch!" or "Tumtum tree!"
In His love,
Nate

You can do the less (or more) painful method... Have a money jar, whenever you curse put in a quater... Give said money to a church, or a charity. I wold be willing to bet that you won't be cursing for long. And heck, your giving money to a good cause.
Answer:
Or you could go with ding-dang-diddily-darn! instead of almost anything.
Answer:
Jason's signature gave me another idea for an alternative:
"Schni schna schnappi, schnappi, schnappi, schnapp!" might be particularly effective, and it's a lot of fun to say, too.

If you can get some others to keep you accountable and force you to do this then it's a really good idea.

Probably...
Hmm... what my friends did to themselves to stop cussing was punch each other when one said a cuss word. It didn't last too long, but it was funny.
And if you are just cussing at your computer... maybe it's just me, I don't usually talk out loud while I'm sitting here, unless of course someone is next to me. :P But if that's you're main cause, step away from it. Use another computer at school or something until you can control it.
The way I stopped was simply to replace words. I use to choose really close sounding words... like 'shiznat', 'dang it', 'fluck' ...which I don't recommend. You can easily slip. Choose something random. lol I use to say lightpoles instead of darnn.
Answer:
Habits are hard to break. If you want to stop doing a certain behavior, then you have to unlearn it - and that's the hard part. You have to make a conscious decision everytime you open your mouth to refrain from certain words. It'll be tough at first, but you can do it. Just keep at it, don't quit trying.

. so my advice?? listen to ROCK!!! It's very rarely something like a phase. I knew people in college 20+ that swore like sailors. I talk to people at work who should have their mouths washed out. It takes a concious effort to stop swearing not something as simple as growing out of it. Also your substitutions are very close to the type of words player4god is trying to avoid and having them so close can be very difficult to discern between the two when flustered and she (assumption from the cowgirl smileys around the username in siggy) could just as easily use the original. I'd say the "swear jar" idea is still the best one to go with.
