Remaining in Christ

Question:
When I'm doing well in terms of praying constantly and reading scripture daily and I want to be growing even more, it seems I always trail off somewhere along the way. How do I keep that desire to glorify God going? When I think about it, I feel like there's a thousand ways to fall and I don't know how to stay up or get back up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated/

Every single Christian on earth struggles with the exact same thing - even Paul, he says so himself. If someone gives you the impression that they no longer struggle with sin, they should be rebuked and pointed to 1 John where he says that if one says they are without sin, they are a liar and the truth is not in them.
The times that you find following God to be the hardest, be encouraged all the more because that's when you need God the most (not like there's a time when you don't need Him, but you get the point).
Answer:
I would strongly suggest reading Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. It's an awesome book. Read the whole book too, don't skip anything.
Answer:
WElcome to the world of every Christian-who-isn't-fooling-themselves. If you feel it's getting harder to pray, find others to pray for and with you. When you know there are others praying for you it's very encouraging.
Answer:
Talk to God anyways, even if you don't feel like praying or that your prayers are making it to God; talk to God anyways.
Answer:
yeah, Mere Christianity is an excellent book. Also, I forgot the author's name, but theres a book called How Can I Be Sure I'm A Christian? It will really reassure you, and challenge you.

Make certain your calling and election.

1 Peter 1:5-11

5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, selfcontrol; and to selfcontrol, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
10Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, 11and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

St. Peter tells us - make your calling and election sure. St. Paul makes it clear that God foreknows, predestines, calls us to believe in Jesus, justifies, and glorifies us, based on His eternal decree (Romans 8:28-31) But there are ways that we can be increasingly sure that we are indeed in Christ, having been justified and continually sanctified by the Spirit.

Ponder this passage, my friend. If there is anything I can help you with, I'm only a PM away.

Peace of Christ,
Ryan Hill

I've found that there are two keys to maintaining my Christian walk: being aware of my great _need_ for God, and taking _delight_ in Him when He meets those needs.
If you're simply trying to do good Christian stuff (praying, reading the Bible, etc.) through your own strength of will, through the power of occasional spiritual highs, or anything of that sort, every failure will discourage you and set you back even further. But if you come to God as a needy, weak, broken person - and that's what all of us are - every failure will only convince you further of your own weakness and will drive you _closer_ to God instead (2 Cor 12:9-10, Lk 18:13-14, Ps 42:1-2).
The other half is to take delight in God. Don't just try to glorify Him, but seek to enjoy Him. A sense of your own neediness does no good if you are unable to be thankful when those needs are met. Consider that God is glorified, not so much when you do things for Him, as when He does things for you. Receiving from God with genuine thankfulness is harder than giving to Him, sometimes (Jn 13:6-8; 1 Chr 17:4, 10b; Lk 10:38-42).
Answer:
Read "The Cost of Discipleship" by Bonhoeffer. Also, "The Normal Christian Life" by Watchman Nee is good.
Answer:
Love and serve others.

This happens to us all, all the time, we are emotional roller coasters, even sometimes we feel far away from God, He said He will never leave us...or forsake us. I personally am guilty of slaking off the bible and should pray alot more then I do. But I know God knows my heart and where it is and no matter how I feel, God loves me. He loves you and He said He'll never leave you. Just knowing that, gives me the desire to want to please Him and be close to Him. I have found that if I place a bible near a certin place that I spend alot of time, or perhaps the bathroom, I will read it more often. Try to set yourself a special time to spend with God and the bible. Also just thinking and meditating through out the day, like when i'm driving in my car, I just thank Him for all He has done and for just be so wonderful to everyone. Thats time with God as well. Just enjoy being God's
God bless, Melissa

Answer:
So everytime we sin, we condemn ourselves to hell all over again and we need to get saved all over again? I thought Christ's death on the cross saved us once from all our sins.

Not very good advice. This is advocating self infliction. Something we try to discourage around here as it's insulting and trivialising the problems of those who actually suffer from the "condition" if you will.
What's more, ChrisHarbison is right, we have no place to condem ourselves as we didn't save ourselves in the first place.
