What is love?
Question: First off if this is in the wrong place MOVE IT, now that that is off my chest ,lol, lets move on. Well ive been around for a while, long enough to notice that a whole bunch of people, you know who you are (this includes me), say that we LOVE someone and that might be paralell with our understanding of love. But do we really LOVE them or is it blind infatuation that we are feeling. See im 17 and i think that i love this girl but how do i know that i really do. in my other thread ,SOoooooooo Confused, i was asked that question how do you know that you love her. i was shocked when i couldnt think of anything except THe love is patient, love is kind verse in Galations i believe. Soo what im asking is for all of you enlightend chapps and chappeses out there could you explain to us poor souls what real LOVE is so we can understand. it kinda helps to have it come from someone who is a little farther down the road than us. Thanks so much, ill see you later. Answer: I'm 17 too. Rock On. Anyway, I've been trying to figure out exactly what love is for a while now. Although, I'm not in the same situation as you are with having a girlfriend and all, I think 1 Corinthians 13 gives us a pretty good idea of what love really is. So that's my take, good luck in your search bro. Answer: True love is putting the other person before yourself. Being willing to give up everything if that person needs you too. Wanting nothing but what is good for the other person. I'll give you a better answer when I get back tomorrow, but basically, that is what I have realized love is. But thanks for the chapter bro Originally Posted by RockOn28 So that's my take, good luck in your search bro. Yeah good luck in yours too. Hasta for a while Answer: True love as in true romantic love, or just true love? Answer: i dunno whats the differance logolas. see i asked you all so us love smitten persons can know what LOve realy is. Thanks anyway Answer: Well, 1 Corinthians 13 gives us a good example of how we should love everyone. We should be patient, kind, slow to anger, etc. etc. etc. There are also the three different Greek translations for love. Erros, Phileo, and Agape.
So my opinion? True love is an all encompassing love. Second only to the love we share with God. Answer: Love's Philosophy Percy Bysshe Shelly The fountains mingle with the river, And the rivers with the ocean; The winds of heaven mix forever With a sweet emotion; Nothing in the world is single; All things by a law divine In another's being mingle-- Why not I with thine? See, the mountains kiss high heaven, And the waves clasp one another; No sister flower could be forgiven If it disdained its brother; And the sunlight clasps the earth, And the moonbeams kiss the sea;-- What are all these kissings worth, If thou kiss not me? Answer: Love is the giving of oneself for another's benefit. That's the most succinct definition I've come across. PS - I haven't come across a good definition for romantic love but I'll try to come up with one. Answer: Baby don't hurt me. Don't hurt me. No more... In any case, my minimal experience with love has shown me that it is a decision. It's not something that just happens and I find it difficult to think that anyone can fall in love. I do believe you can throw yourself into love, but it must be something you do, not something that happens to you. I find it very interesting 1 Cor 13 never actually defines love, but instead lists what love does. As DC Talk once said, "luv is a verb." Answer: Its so true that there are many different types of love out there. Romantic love is one for me that is always changing, one minute it is this and another it is that. My only conclusion is that romantic love is never really going to be all that love is. (maybe I am cynical at moment, I dont know). But one verse that comes to mind is 1 John 4:7-21. Its all so good, it resinates to me what love is and how it should be among us. "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we love God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.... God is Love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgement, because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he loved us." God is Love! Thats it for me. All my love for others is not complete if it doesn't stand on this fundamental. Through God's love for us, which is so amazing and graceful, we can return our love to him. Through our relationship with God, which in itself is soo fulfilling and satisfying, we can know true love with others. Love without God often has some strings attached. Such strings as being loved in return. But through God's love we know true love and are satisfied, and able to love others unrequited. A romantic relationship is much the same. Without the couple responding to the love of God, their love for each other is not a true form of love. Which God has already shown. God is love. Amen. Answer: For most 15 year old girls, love is when you are deeply attracted to a person(hopefully of the opposite sex). They think of flowers , kisses , and all that sappy stuff . but I don't really think that even begins to open even a window of what love is. for me... love can be all sorts of things. For a while, my love was hate. yah it's metaphoric and really random but for a while, I wouldn't let myself love anything, especially God. BIG NO-NO. but during that time, I was incapable of love. so my love was hate. it was a really dark time in my life but thanks to God I got thru it. but back to what love is. i really think that yah, God is love but (through experience) i've learned that love is the giving of oneself for someone else. May it be through a shooting or giving one's life for one's faith. love is what you make it to be for you, and that's between you and God. Answer: Love is so much more than attraction. Attraction may be a part of love, but by no means is it love. As Skeeter quoted DC talk earlier, "luv is a verb." It is about what you do, not how you feel. It is entirely possible to love someone without liking them as a person. Jesus says, "Love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you." If someone is your enemy, I can bet you that you do not like them, otherwise they wouldn't be much of an enemy now would they? On another note, love and hate are inherently different. Indifference may be the enemy of love, but love and hate cannot dissolve into each other to become one, they are like oil and water. Answer: I believe it was C.S. Lewis who said that, "indifference, not hate, is the greatest enemy of love." Anyway, I think romantic love (since I've already defined true love) is a desire for physical and/or emotional intimacy.
