Prayer
Question: ok, so keeping this mostly clean of theology/apologetics... I know questions similar to this have been asked before, I just wanted people's suggestions/thoughts on this situation... I've always found prayer to be a huge part of my Christian walk, and for the past while I've been having the hardest time. It's like I'm in a funk and just can't get moving again. I think most people know what I mean, it's like my prayers are bouncing off the ceiling right back at me. What do I do? just push through and keep praying? Help! Answer: Start a prayer journal. Write your prayers down. Just take three minutes out of each day and write whatever you want or feel out to God. Do it for a week, diligently, and let me know what happens. God hears our prayers even when we feel like He doesn't. Answer: Just talk to God. You don't need to " pray" in some formal way, talk to Him like you do to your mom, dad, sister, brother, friend, etc. It is good to have a time set apart when you are alone with God for more " formal prayer", but always remember that God hears you every second of every day. Answer: Keep praying until something happen... Answer: Originally Posted by avoiding Start a prayer journal. Write your prayers down. This is something I've found to be very helpful for me in many ways. I express so much more when I write and I can write forever along with that I can see all the times the Lord has answered my prayer and worked through tough situations. Along with that someone else suggested not worrying about the formality of the prayers. That is good advice, just talk to the Lord as he is sitting right there listening as your best friend would. He is your best friend, you should treat him as such. Even if you don't know what to say just start talking and the more you talk the closer you will feel to the Lord. Don't think of your prayers as bouncing off the ceiling, he is there and he does hear you. Just look at your recent blessing, your husband should be an example of a complete answer to prayer. Tell God you are in a funk through prayer... Seriously, the Psalms are full of examples of people who are in disastrous circumstances being real with God. Be real with him, and tell him when your soul is downcast and the laundry is undone, and the cat just barfed, and the place is a wreck, and you just want to sleep... tell him that, talk to him about the struggles, the tired numbness. Often I write prayers like that instead of speak them, but frankly, I think its the easiest way to deal with the dryness in prayer. Answer: I've always been able to express myself best when writing. It's been somewhat of a getaway, and just seems safer than "real" conversation... but somehow the idea of a prayer journal feels weird. I keep a regular journal, I just don't know... Answer: All I'm suggesting is you try it. See what happens. Do it as though you were writing letters, ie. snail mail, to God. It's praying, but don't really think of it that way. I'm suggesting you do it because I think it will revamp your prayer life, which I think is what you are seeking. Try it and see how you feel after a few days or a week. I really believe you might be suprised. I certainly was when I tried it. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
