Imature guys
Question: In our youth group there are a few guys that act totally imature, especially around the young ladies. There always cracking foul jokes and flirting with the girls. And now one of the guys is flirting with a few of my close friends and not treating them how young women should be treated, should I do anything about it? I am afraid he is going to use them or just annoy them. Since I am a close friend of theirs, should I say anything to the guy? Alot of people in our youth group has noticed how these few certain guys won't grow up. Its weird, our youth group has alot of nice young men(they act like it) and then we have several little boys(by their behavior) but nothing in between. Well, any advice would be nice. Thanks Justin Answer: Tell them to knock it off. Tell tham that their behaviour is disrespectful and should not be going on at youth group. If they don't listen, bring forth some of the other mature guys from the youth, and if they still don't listen get the leaders involved. It bugs me to no end when guys are disrespectful to girls. (Especially when I, one of the few who was respectful, got lumped in with them by stereotype). Answer: It bugs me too, especially when I get stereotyped by them. But for the most part, that doesn't happen too often. So next time he is bugging them I should just go up to him and tell him to knock it off? And should I give him a little speech on how to treat girls? Answer: In a youth group, for behavior to persist that is inappropriate, both sides have to be participating. Youth group is so voluntary that if someone is shut down, they will go look for greener grass. Answer: The other half of this is helping the girls learn how to not allow themselves to be disrespected. This is an important life skill that they need to learn right now, because it can be an issue the rest of their lives if they don't figure it out when they are young. I learned fairly young how to shut a man's mouth with one good, firm look. It carries over into motherhood, too. *wink* So yes, call the guys on their behavior - but if you really want to make a difference, talk to the girls about self-respect. Answer: Thats a good idea, I will have to talk to them. Its kind of weird, I kind of take care of this group of girls lol and I am the only guy who really hangs with them much. They seem to have good advice and i would say keep hanging with those girls cause i know there are times when i wish i had a guy who was a friend for who we are and didnt want to just be friends to go out with one of us or whatever. Answer: When I've been around other teenagers, it's amazing how guys will listen to guys, but they won't listen to girls. Stick up for the girls in your youth group, and tell the brats off. As a girl, I would really appreciate any effort that a guy made to stop another guy from treating my poorly. Yeah, I say the same, guys often will listen to other guys. Definitely say something. It's doubtful they'll quit by themselves. This is not good behavior for a Christian group, whereas telling these guys to behave is good. That's true about the girls too, make sure they don't encourage the guys who say the wrong thing. You can be nice about it with these guys, but firm! Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
