The lottery and the girlfriend

Question:
My girlfriend is turning 18 very soon and has been a very good christian for as long as I've known her. In common conversation today she claimed she was going to go buy a lottery ticket on her birthday...this broke my heart. I dont even know what to think about it.
What does the bible have to say about this issue?
Answer:
Very little, if anything.
You have a strange relationship if buying a lottery ticket breaks your heart.

Umm... There's nowhere in the bible that says buying a lottery ticket, or even gambling, is wrong. However, the Bible teaches us to be good stewards. Now, going to a casino and blowing a ton of money is one thing, but I wouldn't say that buying a lottery ticket is being a bad steward of your money.
Answer:
Especially in New Orleans in the wake of Katrina, "going to a casino and blowing a ton of money" will probably help to provide jobs for at least three or four people who have been rendered homeless or less-home by the storm.

I never said that going to a casino was a bad thing. But wasting a ton of money at one is. And I don't really want to get in a discussion about how much, but the idea is that gambling in and of itself is not wrong.

I know you don't want to get into that discussion.
I'm a one-man rabbit-trail waiting to happen.
I think you could convincly argue that blowing all of your entire savings at a casino could be a good thing.
