Discussion: Keeping God in mind
Question: Discussion: What do you do to keep God on your mind during your day? Answer: I think. Thinking is what I do best. Some people sing. Some people write. Some people read big books. Me? I think. At the end of the day, though, it doesn't matter what we do for ourselves to keep God on our minds. No matter how good we are, we need others around us to help keep God on our minds. Answer: I pray, and my prayers might often sound irreverant sometimes to your ear. I talk to God aloud as i ride my bike about my frustrations, my joys, my struggles. I find that when I just think, I get great ideas of things to build or something. I often play music as well while I pray. I say this not because I am holy, God knows I am a sinful, cynical being. However, my mentor knew God. When he was 90, he would spend 6-8 hrs a day in prayer, in addition to 5 -8 in his metal shop. Now that is devotion. He had perhaps the most developed prayer life I ever witnessed, and to be honest, it was somewhat scary to be in the room as he prayed. The presence of God and a very real presence in the room was almost too unnerving. Thats what I want. To try and keep God on my mind, I think of Him and talk to Him during the day, and I pray, and I make sure to read the Word every day. Answer: It is hard at work sometimes, but then I get really bored there. So I usually will start singing songs under my breath, mostly praise and worship songs, and I pray when I'm cleaning my department, or when I'm making sure everything is in its place. That's usually a good two hours at the end of my shift, sometimes more... Answer: Thinking is a good way. But what helps me the most is to talk out loud. I'm one of those wackos that talks to myself or inanimate objects all the time. So, when I'm driving to school I talk to God. You could call it praying, but like BSPE, it's not...prayer. It's like having a conversation with a friend, almost. "God, I'm so frustrated with...blablabla..." It's also helpful for me to preach the gospel to myself. "Savannah...you are a totally worthless piece of slime. But guess what?" and so forth. That is all I have time for, folks. Answer: Yeah, Bill that's awesome. I find praying while I'm working very difficult. I have numbers and words in my head all day. I'm quoting clients, ordering stuff to be imported, producing sales to clients or answering the phone. I find I go through the day and I will think about God only occasionally. Hence my difficulty and hence my post/question... Answer: Well, this is just a suggestion (and maybe it's naive), but when you have lunch you could always talk to Him while you're chewing that sandwich. A lunch chat with God. Hence my difficulty and hence my post/question... lunch breaks? driving on the way to and from work? little breaks in the middle of the day? My last job had a ton of downtime which made life easy, yet I have had jobs where I would pray while I fixed computers... Answer: This is going to sound a bit cheezy, but stick with me. I keep God on my mind much the same way I keep my boyfriend on my mind throughout the day. It's not that I am always intentionally thinking about Daniel, but I am just so in love that I automatically do it. We have spent so much time together, had so many conversations, shared so many experiences together that a lot of things throughout my day will remind me of something about him or of an inside joke or a conversation we had. I find myself asking, "What would Daniel think of this situation?" and stuff like that. It's kind of the same with God. The more I get to know him (by reading the Bible, praying, going to church, and just having conversations about him with friends) the more things I find that remind me of him - even when I don't expect it. I even find myself asking the same kinds of questions, like "What would God think of this?" or "What would his opinion be?" See, told you it was kind of cheezy, but to me it makes sense. That is so beautifully stated, and so true. Quite profound. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
