Spiritual Dryness
Question: my bf is going through this time of spiritual dryness right now and he has been fighting it for quite some time. i have been doing some thinking and i am scared to death that i may be the source or at least part of the problem. i'm thinking that i might be a distraction from God and that the reason he's not growing spiritually is because of me. I want so badly for him to get closer to God and I would do anything to make that happen. i just don't know what to do so i just want some advice from anyone who has been in my position or has been in his or just advice from anyone would be great! Answer: If you're what's keeping him away from God, bring him to God. Go to a Wednesday night service together. Read through the Bible together. Go join a Bible study together. But whatever you do or join, I suggest you do it regularly. Not just once or twice. Answer: you might indeed try to take him to those kinds of things, like praise services and good biblestudys. and of course pray, pray for him and/or pray with him. you might also ask him about it, though I wouldnt know wether that would work out well or not, but its an option... Out of curiousity, why do you feel that you're personally responsible for his lack of spiritual growth? Answer: Dryness is not always bad thing, it may merely be where the Lord has him at this time. See Romands 5:3-5... Romans 5 3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. When people are faced with intense hardships (stress, heartache, etc.) they naturally look for an escape, be it drink or drugs or getting lost in a book. Let the Lord be our escape. Psalm 145 5 On the glorious splendor of Your majesty And on Your wonderful works, I will meditate. Take a break from your daily routines, instead spend some time alone in meditation or reading the Bible. The stress and distractions of life (school, church, studying, relationships) can be just that, distractions. Take a break and focus on what really matters. I guess the other question is, why do you feel it's your fault? Good Luck, Nathan Answer: Do you two hang out 24/7? If so, allow him to hang out with the "guys." By "guys," I mean those who are Christian Men, who can encourage him, and help him ignite his fire for God. That is what I had to do. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
