help!!
Question: hey, look! non-relationship based advice thread! ok. relatively simple question: How do I get back into playing guitar? I'd been a mediocre guitarist and was taking lessons before I moved away and started college. since then ((2 yrs ago)) I've hardly played at all! It drives me nuts! I have 2 guitars and if it weren't for Chris, they'd just sit and gather dust. Maybe I should swallow my pride and try to play with him, but he's always been tons better than me and I'm embarassed to play with him... so, advice away... Answer: Get involved with other musicians. It will force you to improve yourself. Just make sure that you are always challenging yourself. Answer: play with him. Answer: Heya, The Esquire is right. Why not play with him? Just because he's better than you (I'm assuming he is, since you say so...) doesn't mean you can't play guitar with him. In fact; The best way to get better is to play with better players. I'd take advantage of his knowlegde and experience, if I were you. By the way, my girlfriend also played guitar. We never really played together though, because whenever I'd start, she's just watch. Kinda disppointing Don't make the same mistake. Answer: Playing with people that are better than you is a good way to learn new things. Answer: thanks guys... I'll talk to him about it today. Answer: Obviously from your post your too young to date. Besides, your parents don't want you dating, and the Bible clearly instructs us to......... ..... Oh...... ....sorry..... ....I find when I haven't been playing guitar for a while the easiest way to get back into it is to just play simple songs that I know how to play. Don't try to learn anything new. If you find yourself with any free time and you're bored and don't know what to do, you should pick up a guitar instead of getting on CGR or whatever else you do in your spare time. And never be afraid to play with anybody just because they're better than you. If they're rude enough to put you down because of your playing, the person probably isn't nearly as good he/she thinks. (this is just general advice... not necessarily specifically for your situation). Playing with somebody who's not nearly as good as you can still be a lot of fun, and so can somebody who's 10x better than you. I've had a fair amount of experience at both since I have about a medium skill level and have played with a lot of different people. I haven't yet brought my guitar into work. ((not sure if it's frowned upon. )) Answer: I've got a guitar, but instead of practicing in order to get better, I play just as a way to worship God; often times when I'm having trouble focusing on prayer, a bit of guitar playing clears my mind - like Elisha using harp music to help him prophesy, in 2 Ki 3. And when I play together with other people, again it's more about worshiping God than about worrying how I sound. As a side effect, I've gotten quite a bit better at playing, but because how I sound isn't my primary concern, it never bothers me if others are better than I. If you play with him just for the sake of enjoying yourselves and praising God, you'll find that it's a joy regardless of your skill level. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
