Bridal Party Attire
Question: Hey ladies, Just wondering if you have any suggestions as far as bridesmaid dresses... I'm really struggling with finding a dress that everyone will be comfortable in as there are different body types. As well, the girls are not all in the same state and therefore can't really try on anything I pick out... Also, the maid of honor might possibly be pregnant at the time of the wedding. lol. Have any of you ordered dresses online? Was that a good or bad experience? Also, what type of garment bag do you use on your wedding dress? I'm afraid that the bag that the bridal shop gave me is damaging my dress- some of the lace is starting to yellow. I am hoping that the shop will fix it for me, as it was left in their bag, but I don't want it to get any worse in the meantime. (The shop is not nearby, and it will be a couple of months before I can make a trip up there.) Answer: As far as bridesmaids dresses go you could get different styles for different girls in the same color though. This is something I've seen a lot lately in wedding trends and I think it's really classy and beautiful! I don't know if you have a David's Bridal around but they have great dresses in some beautiful colors! Then as for your dress I'm not sure the policy with the bridal shop you purchased your dress at but it would be good if they could help you out. If they can't however you might have to take it somewhere and get it cleaned before the wedding. Have you had your dress zipped up in the garment bag since you bought it? If so the bridal shop should have told you not to do this because if you're keeping it in there for a long amount of time your dress with tend to yellow after a while. Leave your dress in the back but don't zip the bag completely, just zip it at the top from now on. I hope this helps . Don't worry I don't think your dress will be ruined, it just needs to be cleaned most likely. Answer: Hi Beloved, I work part time at Brides by Demetrios, and i must say bridesmaids are one of my favorite things to do! for styles I'd recommend Jordan Fashions because they tend to be the lower end of the cost and they have pretty dresses: www.jordanfashions.com. Here's what I'd do: 1. talk to your girls, look at the website, and shortlist the dresses you like. Maybe pick some styles for them to choose from (you can get the style numbers from the website). 2. find bridal stores in the area that carry that line and see if the girls can go and try some of them on. 3. decide whether you want to go with the same dress or whether they all want different dresses. If different dresses MAKE SURE that they have the same fabric (satin, chiffon, etc). They should preferably be from the same company of bridesmaids dresses because the colors vary a lot from brand to brand. That just makes everything look more uniform as far as colors go. If the same, talk to your girls after going to bridal stores and have them give feedback as to which ones they liked, didn't like, etc. 4. Measurements: you can take these yourself if you can get a hold of the sizing chart for the line of dresses you choose to buy from. Or you can have your bridesmaids go down to the local bridal store and get their measurements taken. Most bridal stores will be glad to help you and will give you a copy of the measurements. 5. For your pregnant bridesmaid, how pregnant will she be? how much will she be showing? I'd recommend an empire waist dress because they are more easily tailored for pregnancy. Also, if she's going to be showing by the wedding order a size or two up. it'll have to be taken in in places, but it's always easier to take in than to let out (cardinal rule of alteration). I could give you my recommendations of favourite bridesmaid dresses but I don't know you or your bridesmaids, so you should find them yourself as for your wedding gown, it's a good idea to keep it out of the bag. if I may ask, why are you hanging on to it? at my bridal store we kept the gowns for the brides until right before their wedding, just to reduce the chance of anything happening. Then a couple days before their wedding we would steam them and spot clean if anything had happened (makeup getting on the collar, etc). See if you can get the store to hold on to it for you. They will take care of it well. If not, keep the bag unzipped. I've never heard of a problem like this occuring with a bag...usually the bags help PREVENT discoloration. Oh well :) Let me know how your dress shopping goes and be sure to show pictures of the dresses you choose!!! Congratulations! noelle Answer: Yes, I reckon go for the different styles for each girl. We're doing that. Every girl is different. It's best that they would wear something that they are comfortable with. I have bridesmaids that live two hours from eachother, which isn't that far, but it's hard to set up times to meet up and go shopping. So, I have bought a length of green ribbon in the colour that I want, and I'm going to ask the girls to look for dresses in any shade of green as long as it blends with that colour. Eg: they wouldn't by pale green and aqua-green, because they wouldn't work together. Or maybe you could buy a dress pattern and buy the fabric for each girl and have a dressmaker in their area make the dress. It would possibly be cheaper too, but a bit scarier Answer: Great tips, thanks girls! Actually, the store never offered to keep my dress for me... that definitely would have been nice. I feel like they should be responsible for the discoloration because they told me it would be fine in that bag. But if not, at least I feel better knowing that a cleaning will probably take care of it. I was really worried, because I love my dress! It took me forever to find... Do you know of any places that carry maternity bridesmaid dresses? The date for the wedding isn't officially set yet, but with the two dates we're tossing around, it's possible that she will be like 8-9 months pregnant (lol I know, not a good idea) or will have had the baby already. If you went with no set style, but just chose a color as was suggested, then if one of your bridesmaids is pregnant she could just buy a maternity dress in the right color. This would probably make things easier on everyone actually. Answer: Originally Posted by BelovedOne Great tips, thanks girls! David's Bridal does a few maternity dresses, but not many. But it's worth a look. I also think letting the girls choose their own dress (either in the exact same colour, or coordinating shades) is a good idea. My bridesmaids all wore different dresses. And now, looking back, I almost wish I'd done the coordinating shades as well because it does look really nice. (I've been trying to find a picture online of my friend Misha's wedding, where she did the coordinating colours thing, but I can't find any.) Hope this helps? (If you are going for semi-cas, J Crew has some pretty dresses, but they are a bit pricey.) Answer: It would be great to see pictures of weddings where the dresses were different- I've never seen that done before. The wedding will be somewhat formal, so I'm afraid that might look strange... Answer: I don't think it would make it look any less formal. If the dresses chosen and hairstyles were informal, it would look informal. Answer: It wouldn't look less formal at all as long as the dresses were ore formal. I'm posting a couple of pics here of this wedding I shot in December, the bride had an asian style wedding and her bridesmaids not only had different styles but different color dresses as well. Maybe this will give you a better idea. Answer: Seriously David's bridal was a god-send for me. I was up in Washington and my bridesmaids we down in So Cali, and since David's Bridal is all over, I was able to pick out some of the styles i liked from their website and email the links to them to see what they liked. And since David's Bridal has one large nationwide database, they were able to go to the local store and try on and get their dresses and get the discount since I was the bride and had bought my dress there. If you and/or your girls are in or near a larger city, they should have a Davids bridal near you. Also, their prices are pretty decent, depending on the style. And, like it has been said, they have a (though minimal) selection of maturnity styles. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
