I need someone's advice/opinion

Question:
Hey all,
I guess I come with a lot of questions that maybe some of you can answer?
Well, needless to say, I was into a lot of junk that I shouldn't have been throughout most of my high school days. So to put it in plain terms, I did quite poorly grade-wise, and just graduating in itself was quite a blessing to me. However, I did graduate properly.
Obviously, I didn't take the path of college right out of high school. I didn't have the money, didn't have a job...and pretty much didn't have the grades, of course. I've been working for quite a long time now, and a few months ago I changed jobs to a better job with benefits. It's working in a retail setting, selling computers and various technology products. In a little over 2 1/2 months from now, I will qualify for the tuition reimbursement. Which, to my knowledge, the company pays about 75% of the cost (at the end of the semester) of courses...if they are needed for a degree or job-related. I'm just not an academic kind of person...I'm very good with computers, though. So, it would have to be job-related, which wouldn't be a problem.
I've checked into a little bit of information for tech school. To get an actual 'degree', I would have to have my transcripts from high school sent to the school. Which means, I pretty much wouldn't get past the admissions part. There are, however, separate courses that can be taken. I don't think these require as much as an actual degree in itself. I don't feel it's worth even going for a degree, because as I said, I'm not much of an academic person and it would be worthless and a waste of time. I'm more of a hands-on type person. I don't want to take the "core" classes (academic) in general, which would go with the degrees.
Has anyone done anything similar? I'm not quite sure where to even begin or what general area I would want to go for. I'm thinking computer hardware or something similar. I've had a friend tell me that the school has to be SACS accredited or something, or another college (if you wanted to extend that to a degree, later) wouldn't accept what I had done at the tech school.
Any advice from those of you who have "been around" and know more of what you are talking about? Thanks
Answer:
My first question is what do you want to be? Software Engineer? System administrator? Systems integrator? Electrical Engineer?
