I did it!
Question: well i did it today - I asked Lucie to marry me I was at hers for the day celebrating boxing day and in the evening we had to pop back to the village where I live to pick up a key so before we went I got her mum to distract her while I had a word with her dad. I took him into the kitchen and the conversation went something like this: Me: "I'm hoping to ask Lucie to marry me and wanted to get your blessing before I do so" Him: "Of course, you're part of the family anyway - this just confirms it. When are you planning on asking her?" Me: "Tonight hopefully" Him: "Ok, good luck!" Me: "Thankyou" the most nervewracking minute of my life!! So we drove to the village to pick up the key then on the way back I said that I had to pop into church to pick up some music mum left there on Christmas day so we drove over there. (just so you know my church is a beautiful old english country church and at the moment it has all it's christmas floral displays up so it is fantastic!) I parked outside the church and we went inside. I'd picked up dads set of keys earlier so we could get in and we locked one of the front door locks just in case anyone tried to break in. I then turned on just the light above the alter on and we walked to the front. Lu said that the church felt really special when you're the only ones in it and then I got her to stop just in front of the alter and got down on one knee and proposed It took her completely by surprise and after she had hugged me a bit she said yes we then stayed at the front a bit just hugging and she cried a bit. I gave her the ring and it fitted perfectly (thanks to her best friend). eventually we went to leave and found that we couldn't unlock the front door from the inside!! after trying every one of 4 keys in 3 locks we decided to try and find another way out and eventually got out through a side door. we then had to go back in the front and close up properly - all a bit crazy but it was really fun doing something silly like getting locked in church together after getting engaged! We then drove round to my house and told my parents/extended family who were staying and then went to Her parents and told them. everyone was so excited but I was just drained! after a couple of hours at hers we drove to see a few friends and first went to the vicarage to tell our Vicar and his wife. they were really pleased and prayed for us which was so nice. He then got out his wedding planner for 2007 and started suggesting dates!! after telling a few more friends I dropped her off at home and have just got home feeling so happy but completely exhausted. it is wierd but I don't really feel that different, I suppose because I've been planning this for ages then it is just the next natural step to do it. anyway that's my story of today God bless, Rich Answer: that sounds cute and fun lol im happy for ya! God Bless Answer: What a beautiful way to propose. Answer: awwwwww **tear** Answer: Congrats! Whats the plan from here ? Answer: well in the week or so since we got engaged we have done a lot of planning! we have booked the church for midday on the 4th August 2007 which is very exciting. we are planning on hiring a church hall nearby with a field attached and we are going to have a barbeque! we have made a list of people we want to come and there are about 120 so we have put together an approximate budget and spoken to both sets of parents regarding funds .That has worked out brilliantly as between them we will have about £1000 more than our budget which gives us a bit of leeway and also we will have some money left over to actually help set up a house etc. we want the reception to be a really informal affair so we are going to have tables and blankets for people to sit on but not have set places. assuming the weather holds (which is a risky assumption in England!) when people get to the reception (~3pm) they willl be able to get food and there will be games and probably some live music outside and then after people have eaten (~5pm) we will go inside for the speeches etc. then the music will carry on and we will wind it down at about 8pm when people can head off. Lucie and I will probably leave a bit before that as we will have to drive to the cottage we will be staying at for our honeymoon. as you can see we have been busy! it's nice to have it planned out because now we have lots of time to relax and enjoy the moment and then we can organise/book things as and when we need to. it's all very exciting!!! God bless, Rich Answer: Congratulations, man! Your story really made me smile. Good luck with your future wife. God bless. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
