College for future minister
Question: so i'm a high school senior that's been called into ministry. i've been looking at colleges, trying to figure out which schools have the best programs and whatnot. i'm interested in majoring in youth ministries, or possibly a more broad christian ministries/christian education program. i'd also like to be able to take courses (and possibly minor) in missions. (fyi: i'm considering seminary afterwards, God willing.) so far i've looked at asbury college and lee university. i visited lee university, but the only thing that's holding me back is that they don't seem to have very strong academics. i haven't visited asbury yet, but i think it will be better in that aspect. i was considering bryan college, but i think i've decided that it's too small for me (undergrad population of just under 700...). does anyone have information about these schools? what other schools should i be considering? one of the biggest problems i've found is that most christian schools don't offer much financial aid. (except asbury and lee, which will offer me generous academic scholarships... hmm). oh, and also i live in tennessee, so location-wise... anywhere west of arkansas or north of ohio and west virginia is pretty much out. anyway... any suggestions? Answer: how about drew university? i'm planning on going there when i graduate, they are in new jersey..i dont know if thats where you want to be? they offer finalcial aid. and it is a private school if that matters. Answer: Liberty. Emmaus. Johnson. Answer: My sister in law went to Bryan and she really enjoyed it, just some FYI. I'm at Free Will Baptist Bible College.... Liberty, couple of friends from there....just know it's expensive. There is Carson-Newman, Johnson Bible College, and Trevecca. Answer: I'm planning on attending Oral Roberts University. It's in Tulsa, Oklahoma so that may be a little far for your tastes. I'm planning on majoring in missions and their theology department is awesome. Also, 97% of students receive school financial aid so that will hopefully keep my (and my parents) pocketbook happy. I don't know much about those other colleges. I've heard of them and I've talked to recruiters from msot of those schools but I can't give you any information. So that's where I'm going (God willing). Good luck on your search! (fyi: i'm considering seminary afterwards, God willing.) Go for the Christian Ministries/Christian Education degree. There's a reason that you don't see a lot of youth ministers over forty. You can use the CM/CE degree for a wider range of ministries than just youth while still being able to work with youth. Answer: My roommate is planning to go to seminary and become a pastor, he believes and I agree with him, that it is better to major in something besides religion for your bachelor's, if for no other reason because you are going to have to study all that stuff again in seminary but more importantly I think that the seminary schools actually recommend it so that you have background in other things. He's majoring in multimedia. Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
