Asking her father

Question:
Hi all,
Exciting news - I bought an engagement ring today!! (well ordered it at least)
I was wondering how many of you guys asked the fathers blessing first (I definately have to ) and what you said?
Lucie's father is nice but very deaf so it's quite hard work talking to him at the best of times let alone when I'm really nervous!
so yeah, any advice would be awesome
thanks guys (expect me to be posting in this forum more often now)
God bless, Rich

Not really, I knew them well, but was very concerned if I said anything wrong. But it was a slightly unique situation.
Answer:
Rich,
If the dude is deaf...you might want to just put your words down on paper and give him it and sit with him - that way he gets it all. Asking my wife's father was no problemo.
Answer:
I don't think he's quite deaf enough for me to do that unfortunately otherwise it's a good plan
one more question, I've been thinking about and am not quite sure what I'm supposed to be asking!! Is it just a case of asking his permission?
cheers,
Rich
(ps. that's the ring I bought in my sig the real one is a bit smaller though!)
Answer:
Dude i would take him to lunch one day(or if the hearing is a problem somewhere that you can talk to him without Lucie finding out) and ask for his blessing. While I'm not married yet, I will be asking her father(or her father figure) for his permission/blessing.
Answer:
My pastor gave us a very wise thought on the whole asking-the-father thing.
The question is, if he says no, are you still going to marry her?
Then you will want to ask for his BLESSING, not his permission. For if you ask for his PERMISSION and he says no, then by marrying each other she will be disobeying her father very directly. However, if you ask for his BLESSING, and he says no, well, it would be unfortunate but you could still marry without disobedience.
I don't know if that makes any difference to you, but it was a very wise clarification. I mean, not that any of us expect the father to say no, but I suppose it could happen sometimes.
Just a thought worth passing on, I believe.
Answer:
well that was quite scary - I asked him, the conversation went something like:
Me: "I'm hoping to ask Lucie to marry me and wanted to get your blessing before I do so"
Him: "Of course, you're part of the family anyway - this just confirms it. When are you planning on asking her?"
Me: "Tonight hopefully"
Him: "Ok, good luck!"
Me: "Thankyou" the most nervewracking minute of my life!!
more in the other thread I just started
God bless, Rich
Answer:
if you 2 have been going out for awhile, and everything seems to be going pretty well, well enough for you to want to marry her.. then her father should have an idea whats going on once you sit down with her FATHER AND MOTHER. when do you plan on asking him? you'll be fine.
