I think I may have lost a check, please pray it doesn't fall into the wrong hands! Or that if it falls into someone's hands, they will have the good will to shred it/tear it up. Even sticking it in the trash is semi-safer than it just floating around on the breeze...I'm really anxious about this.
Well, here's the story: this morning, my mom handed me a check and I stuck it in a jacket. And then I ran around and put on a different jacket, and then the next time I checked for the check it wasn't there. When I came home and checked the first jacket, it wasn't there either. I hope I stuck it in the jacket, now I am not so sure

You need to ask your mom to put a stop payment on that check asap. That way so one can cash it, or possibly rewrite it. Then she could issue you a new check.
I will warn you that it may cost anywhere from 10.00-30.00 to put a stop payment on a check.

Well, we haven't put a stop payment on it. I mean, my mom is always very thorough when it comes to filling out checks, so she makes sure that someone can't mess with the check and cash it in for more than it's worth ($100.00 instead of $10.00). Since it takes $20.00 to stop the check, we just figured it wasn't worth it; that's twice the price of the check.
