Waco pastor killed on Sunday.
Question: I don't know if anyone's posted a thread anywhere else about this, but Kyle Lake, the pastor of University Baptist Church in Waco, was killed on Sunday in a baptism accident (something involving a short in his microphone, I believe--all I know for sure is that he was electrocuted while in the water). He left behind a wife, three really young kids, and a pretty big church full of rather young people. The whole church community in Waco's pretty shaken up by this, so please be praying for everyone there. Answer: Yeah this made the news in Australia too. Its awful to hear. Praying for his family. Answer: im praying for the family Answer: Praying for comfort amongst his friends, family, and congregation. -In Prayer- Answer: Praying that God's will would be done Answer: Wow. Now I'm actually glad that our building inhibits wireless microphones such that I have to use a handheld mic mounted outside the baptistry whenever our pastor wants to speak from the baptistry. Wow. Answer: I cant believe it. Ill pray for the family Answer: Talk about a freak accident! Praying Answer: Yea. I can't really see how it happened. I never really thought that a microphone could do that much damage. It's only 48 volts with phantom power on... I didn't think that could be deadly. It really is a weird accident. I'll be praying for that church tonight. Answer: Originally Posted by PatrickStar4491 It's only 48 volts with phantom power on... That 48 volts of phantom power hurts like all hell... trust me. I have many bad experiences with faulty mic cords shocking me. I would assume this pastor was wearing a wireless lapel, though, which would have been just a 9V battery, but that could probably still do some crazy damage through the water. It doesn't seem quite right talking about it like this, though. In His love, Nate Answer: wow...the wireless mics my church uses are only 9V...just a lesson our kidly warning labels always tell us...don't use electronics around water...(and yes, as a sound tech i have actually worried about mics shorting out during baptisms...especially that one time when my pastor spilled water ) all over his mic... Answer: Actually, I just checked, and CNN said it happened as he reached out of the baptistry to grab a mic standing outside on the stage, so it was the full 48V of phantom power. I am never going to let my pastor so much as touch the microphone while he's in the baptistry again... seriously. Answer: You can't die of electrocution from a wireless mic. Period. You can't be electrocuted by 9 volts of electricity. Not only that, the microphone is not the known cause of it as it's still under investigation. It's just as likely that the baptismal pool heater or an underwater light (if there was one) had a short in it and grabbing the microphone gave the current a properly earthed ground to travel through. A perfectly installed and grounded sound system would still have that effect. Shotgun/bullet mic or a hanging choir mic are the *only* ways to go for mic'ing someone in the baptistry. Answer: well since i'm PCA i guess most of this doesn't apply to me...still terrible news though... Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
