Lottery

Question:
I dont know if this is in the right place so mods do as you wish.
Are christians allowed to play it or should they refrain from it?
Answer:
I don't have any of my stuff with me as I'm at work, but I do recall reading in the Bible that we are to be good stewards of our resources. And spending money on lottery tickets with absolutely no guarantee of winning doesn't seem very responsible.

No, it doesn't.
But if you only play for entertainment it's not really a waste of money. It's cheaper than the matinée!

This much is true. But when you can download all those movies for free anyways, doesn't the eliminate the whole issue?

Are christians allowed to play it or should they refrain from it? as long as you are not spending money that should be used for other things like rent, bills, car paymenet, etc. But if you'd rather blow $8 on lottery tickets instead of a movie at the theater, i don't see a problem with it.

ah thnk you. And yea i would take my chances with the lotto rather spend it on a movie. Movie is 9 bucks out here!
Answer:
The lottery is basically just a voluntary tax. The Bible says to render unto Caesar.
Well... it's a bit of a stretch, but there you go.

i like the way you think
Answer:
Where does the lottery money go? I know here in TN, alot of it goes to education and scholarships. So it's a charitable donation, right?

(Write it off on taxes maybe?)

Right on. There's nothing wrong with the lottery or, in fact, gambling period. You just have to take it in moderation. If it's sapping away money that you need, instead of "entertainment money", or if it's an addiction, then you'd have a problem.

Oh i see. So as long as i dont waste my time and my money on it and obssess over it, its ok rite?
Answer:
Actually, yeah. The lottery is sort of like a voluntary tax... a voluntary tax that could win you millions of dollars.
I don't see any reason to consider the lottery wrong.
Think of it like you think of other forms of entertainment, but be aware of how much you are spending.
