The Rapture
Question: I've been wondering about this lately. I can't seem to find a place in Scripture that specifically talks about the rapture. So if someone could please clarify for me: Is it biblical? Answer: It really depends on what you mean by rapture. I do believe that those believers alive when Jesus returns will be taken up to heaven. However, I do not see the rapture as a separate event from the second coming. I think there's no chance that the rapture as a separate event is at all biblical. Every scripture that is typically used to reference some secret rapture is quite obviously speaking of the Day of the Lord--which will not be a quiet event. Answer: That's what I thought. I read 1 Corinthians 15:51-52: 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. When I saw the last trumpet, I was pretty sure it meant the Second Coming (at the end of the Tribulation). The sheer number of different views of eschatology is dizzying to me. I tend to be of the camp that believes that we are not called to make interpretations out of things that were not meant to be understood. Basically, I know who wins; the rest will pan out. Answer: Ya I don't hink the rapture, in the sense that many people use today, is gonna happen. It is a doctrine of wishful thinking, that we'll get taken up before the antichrist has time to persecute us. Answer: Originally Posted by Adam K I've been wondering about this lately. How, pray tell, do you know this? And what is coming soon? The rapture that is absent from the scriptures? If you mean the "rapture" in the _Left Behind_ sense, there's almost no Biblical support for it at all. I think 1 Thess 4:17 has been referenced as a prooftext for the rapture, but in context that passage is talking about something _after_ the final trumpet when the dead are raised. Wut do u mean? Answer: Originally Posted by Cruelty*free Why would the rapture be absent from the scriptures? Wut do u mean? Can you show me where the Bible speaks of the rapture? There are several places - 2 Cor 12:2, Acts 8:39, Rev 4:1 (different language, same thought), 1 Thess 4:17... The key phrase in these verses are "caught up, or "caught away". At any rate, the Greek word for the phrase is harpazo. it's G726 in Strongs. I'm not sure of the exact Latin word that "rapture" is derived from, but I think it's rapturo, or raptum, or something like that. Personally, I'm not so sure the Church goes through the Tribulation, and that's the only other alternative I can see to a pre-trib or a mid-trib rapture. But that's another subject for another time. peace, 'dust Copyright © 2007 - 2008 www.thanktoday.com
