The Manga Bible
Question: No idea where to post this, buut this guy is coming out with a Manga Bible! Pretty neat, eh? He says to think of it as a kind of expensive tract, because it obviously does not contain all of the text of the real thing. http://www.themangabible.com/ Answer: That's disturbing... extremely disturbing. Answer: Why? Answer: To whom are you asking why? Answer: The Manga Bible has been created by Siku, the conceptualist and illustrator described by David Bishop (ex-2000AD & Judge Dredd Megazine editor) as 'One of Britain's best young comic book artists'. hmmm Amazon.com Synopsis Manga comics, the most popular literary form in Japan and Korea, are the fastest growing genre in British and American publishing. Dynamic, action-based artwork combined with pacy, emotional storytelling in a style particularly popular amongst teens and young adults. Many years in the making, The Manga Bible will be a publishing phenomenon. Artist Siku, one of the UK's hottest comic talents, has brought his distinctive, edgy style to the world's all-time best-selling book. The Manga Bible is a faithful adaptation of the Bible, injected with new energy by Siku's beautiful and dramatic artwork. The Manga Bible - NT Raw contains the New Testament plus brief features such as 'Introducing the New Testament', 'What is Manga?', an interview with Siku and sketches from his preliminary work on the project. Also available: The Manga Bible - NT Extreme, which also contains the the full text of the New Testament from the TNIV translation of the Bible. The complete Manga Bible, including the Old Testament, will be available later in the year. Answer: Originally Posted by bobthecockroach To whom are you asking why? You. Hahaha Answer: Originally Posted by bobthecockroach I find a Manga Bible existentially disturbing. what do you find so disturbing? Answer: Originally Posted by Bryan what do you find so disturbing? BIG HAIRED ANGELIC WARRIORS WITH GIGANTIC SWORDS WILL DESTROY THEIR ENEMIES! CAN YOU HANDLE THE FURY!! I actually don't mind this, except I think it's very, very unwise and dangerous to ever depict Christ visually. Other than that, it is a public domain source. Answer: I wonder if there are other religions in the world that use their sacred texts as marketing material to the extent that Christianity does. I mean... do you see comic-book Korans? Telletubby Torahs? Wall-art B'hagavad Gitas (if I spelled that right, it's a miracle)? I don't understand why Christianity feels the need to take the Word of God and transform it into as many mass-market media formats as possible. Is a secular manga fan really going to think "DUDE!!! THIS MANGA BIBLE IS TEH UBER 1337!!!"? Just trying to sell more stuff to Christianized, world-isolated Church-punks, it seems to me. I actually think it's more unwise and dangerous to depict the obviously metaphorical / figurative events of the book of Revelation visually. "DUDE! THE BIBLE SAYS THERE'S GOING TO BE THIS AWESOME BOSS MONSTER THAT COMES OUT OF THE SEA AT THE END OF THE WORLD AND ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD ARE GOING TO FIGHT IT WITH THEIR MAGICAL WIND POWERS!" Answer: How is this different from stained glass windows/paintings/mosaics? Or an illustrated children's Bible? Answer: Originally Posted by Jeffrey You think you know what's in the Bible?
